Άργησε να ξυπνήσει...

Το ξυπνητήρι στο Σ.Ε.Φ. για τον Ολυμπιακό χτύπησε στο 26ο λεπτό. Ως τότε οι Πειραιώτες δεν είχαν μπει στο ρυθμό του ματς και επηρεάστηκαν από το κοντρόλ μπάσκετ της ομάδας του Τρινκέρι. Τελικά ο Ολυμπιακός βγάζοντας πολλή περισσότερη ενέργεια στο παρκέ και με πιεστική άμυνα, κατάφερε να φέρι το ματς από το -24 (31-55) στο 72-74. Τελικά τα δύο τελευταία άστοχα τρίποντα του Σπανούλη έδωσαν στος Γερμανούς τη νίκη με 72-77, οι οποίοι έβαλαν τις βολές στα φάουλ σκοπιμότητας στο τέλος.

Η ήττα αυτή στοίχισε στον Ολυμπιακό την 1η θέση αφού με νίκη έκανε το 3-0 και έμενε μόνος πρώτος στον όμιλο. Ίσως το χειρότερο 1ο ημίχρονο του Ολυμπιακού στη φετινή Ευρωλίγκα, αφού οι ερυθρόλευκοι δεν μπόρεσαν να βρουν ρυθμό. Σαφώς επηρεάστηκε και από τον τρόπο παιχνιδιού της Μπάμπεργκ που ήθελε να παγώσει το ρυθμό και φυσικά τα κατάφερε.

Θέλετε ο τραυματισμός του Χάντερ, θέλετε η ανετοιμότητα του Τζέιμς, λίγο πολύ και τα δύο, ο Ολυμπιακός αρχικά δεν μπόρεσε να βάλει την μπάλα στη ρακέτα και αυτό επηρέασε και τον τρόπο ανάπτυξης του. Από την άλλη οι Γερμανοί είχαν απίστευτα ποσοστά στα τρίποντα (αρχικά 8/11) και διεύρυναν συνεχώς τη διαφορά για να φτάσουν στο ημίχρονο στο 26-39.

Αισθητά βελτιωμένος ο Ολυμπιακός στο 2ο ημίχρονο, έβγαλε ενέργεια στο παρκέ και με αντεπίθεση διαρκείας από το 26ο λεπτό και μετά, έκανε το μεγάλο come back από το -24. Σε αυτό συνετέλεσε και το 4ο φάουλ του μαέστρου της Μπάμπεργκ Νίκου Ζήση στο 28', που τον ανάγκασε για αρκετή ώρα να μείνει στον πάγκο.

Στη μεγάλη επιστροφή των ερυθρόλευκων μεγάλη ήταν η συνεισφορά των Στρόμπερι και Χάκετ που έπαιξαν σεμιναριακές ατομικές άμυνες. Ο Σφαιρόπουλος στο διάστημα αυτό επέλεξε χαμηλά (πολύ χαμηλά) σχήματα με 5άρι Πρίντεζη ή Αγραβάνη και πολλές φορές και 4 ασο-δυαρο-τριάρια (Χάκετ - Στρόμπερι - Παπαπέτρου - Όντομ -Σπανούλη - Μάντζαρη). Η αλήθεια το κοντό σχήμα αύξησε την πίεση στην μπάλα και αποδιοργάνωσε την επίθεση της Μπάμπεργκ.

Με πολλά φάουλ αμύνονταν οι Γερμανοί, αλλά ο Ολυμπιακός ήταν άστοχος στο 2ο ημίχρονο στις βολές. Έτσι εκεί που πλησίασε στους 10, με σερί 0-7 η Μπάμπεργκ ξαναξεφεύγει (47-62).

Εκεί γίνεται η 2η "έξοδος" και με το μοναδικό τρίποντο του Σπανούλη (1/8) έφτασε μέχρι και το 72-74. Όμως ήτα ήδη αργά καθώς ο Wanamaker ήταν εύστοχος στα φάουλ σκοπιμότητας και το τελικό 72-77 έφερε την 1η ήττα των Πειραιωτών στο Top-16.

Stats don't lie... Ο Ολυμπιακός είχε 28 ριμπάουντ έναντι 37 των Γερμανών, που είχαν 53% στα τρίποντα. Μόλις 10 ασίστ για τον Ολυμπιακό που άλλες φορές έχει μόνο ο Σπανούλης 7-8.

Bamberg ambushes Olympiacos in Piraeus for first Top 16 road win

A week after snapping a 21-game losing streak in the Top 16, Brose Baskets Bamberg made a huge statement by stopping previously undefeated Olympiacos Piraeus 72-77 on the road at Peace and Friendship Stadium on Friday. Both teams hold 2-1 records as five teams total now share first place in Top 16 Group F. Fueled by triples from Janis Strelnieks, Bamberg finished the first half with a 2-14 run, then scored the first 8 points of the third quarter to build a 26-47 lead. The difference reached as high as 31-55 before the Reds re-charged their defense, did not allow Bamberg to score a field goal for 6 minutes and used a 16-2 run bridging the third and fourth quarters to get back in the game. Darius Miller helped restore Bamberg's 18-point lead in the fourth quarter before Ioannis Papapetrou gave Olympiacos a final pus and Vassilis Spanoulis hit a triple that made it 72-74 affair with 12.7 seconds left. Brad Wanamaker hit 2 of 2 free throws then, and Bamberg held on to the victory. Miller netted 23 points on 4-for-6 three-point shooting to lead the winners. Strelnieks made 4 of 5 threes to finish with 15 points. Leon Radosevic scored 14, and Nicolo Melli had an all-round effort with 7 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists for Bamberg. Olympiacos finished with five double-digit scorers. D.J. Strawberry had 15 points, Spanoulis scored 11, while Papapetrou, Georgios Printezis and Daniel Hackett had 10 apiece in defeat.

First quarter: Bamberg takes early lead

Both teams needed more than 2 minutes to make the first basket as Melli scored a layup. The Reds needed another minute more to open their account, with Vangelis Mantzaris running a fastbreak and finding Georgios Printezis for an easy two. Nikos Zizis made a runner, and after Spanoulis made a reverse layup, Miller banked a shot high of the glass for basket-plus foul and 4-7. Othello Hunter scored inside, but Wanamaker bettered it from the outside before Patrick Heckmann made a floater and Strelnieks nailed his first long-range it from way downtown, opening a 7-15 lead. Hackett answered with a three-pointer, but Miller hit his own from deep for Bamberg, making it 10-18 at the end of first quarter.

Second quarter: Strelnieks opens double-digit margin

Darius Johnson-Odom and Miller traded three-pointers to open second quarter, and after D.J. Strawberry made a pair of free throws, Papapetrou raced the length of the floor for a fastbreak layup at 17-21. Gani Lawal's two-handed dunk cut the difference further and capped a 6-0 run for Olympiacos. Miller responded with a long jumper, but Strawberry buried a three-pointer at 24-25. Strelnieks hit his own jumper and Radosevic finished a fastbreak with a dunk, forcing an Olympiacos timeout. Strelnieks added a triple, and Wanamaker fed Radosevic for an easy layup, opening up 24-34 lead and forcing another timeout from the hosts. Yet another triple from Strelnieks opened a 13-point margin. A reverse layup from Mantzaris snapped a 0-12 Bamberg run, but Radosevic's free throws made it 26-39 at halftime.

Third quarter: Bamberg leads by 24, the Reds start a comeback

Radosevic drove for a layup then made a baseline jumper to open the second-half scoring. The same player added a tip-in, then Melli made a short turnaround jumper for a 21-point margin, 26-47. After a timeout, Strawberry made a three-pointer, but Miller answered with the same coin. Hackett made free throws, but Miller scored inside and Strelnieks hit from long range to make it 31-55 and silence the home crowd. Hackett answered from deep as the Reds went all out, pressuring aggressively, on defense. Dimitrios Agravanis and Printezis hit from close range to cut the difference to 38-55. Melli snapped a 7-0 run with a pair of foul shots, but Printezis nailed a corner three-pointer that made it 42-57 and forced Bamberg coach Andrea Trinichieri to call a second timeout in a short span. Strawberry continued the run with a fastbreak layup-and-foul, and Hackett scored a layup in traffic at 47-57. Miller made a pair of free throws to stop the 9-0 run of Olympiacos and send Bamberg into the fourth quarter with 47-59 lead.

Fourth quarter:

Miller hit a triple to open the fourth-quarter scoring and end Bamberg's six-minute drought without a field goal. A dunk by Daniel Theis and a free throw from Strelnieks restored an 18-point margin as Olympiacos was held without a single point for more than 3 minutes. Strawberry and Spanoulis each only split free throws before Papapetrou made a three-point play midway through the quarter, cutting the deficit to 52-65. Papapetrou followed with a three-point shot, and after Zisis hit a jumper for Bamberg, Papapetrou finished another fast break with a dunk to make it 57-67. Radosevic made free throws to keep the margin in double figures, before Spanoulis and Printezis scored inside at 61-69. Wanamaker drove for a layup, but Ioanis Athinaiou answered with a huge corner triple and Strawberry made a pair of free throws at 66-71. Miller hit a key runner for Bamberg, and Strawberry made only 1 of 2 from the line as teams went into the final minute with a 67-73 scoreboard. Spanoulis banked in a runner, and after Wanamaker split free throws, Spanoulis hit a triple with 12.7 seconds to go, getting Olympiacos within 72-74. Wanamaker was immediately fouled, but this time made both foul shots. After a timeout, Spanoulis missed a tough triple, and Bamberg prevailed in Piraeus.

Σφαλιάρα!

Δυνατό χαστούκι δέχτηκε ο Παναθηναϊκός στο ΟΑΚΑ, αφού ηττήθηκε από τον Ερυθρό Αστέρα με 63-74, καθώς παρέμεινε πολύ μακριά από το καλό πρόσωπο που δείχνει στο ΟΑΚΑ. Η σφαλιάρα αυτή μπορεί να λειτουργήσει ως ξυπνητήρι για τους πράσινους αφού ο θεσμός ακόμα έχει πολύ δρόμο και τίποτα δεν έχει χαθεί.

Το καμπανάκι είχε χτυπήσει και την προηγούμενη αγωνιστική με τη Μάλαγα, καθώς η ομάδα ούτε τότε ήταν ικανοποιητική. Οι πράσινοι τώρα έχουν σκορ 1-2 και πρέπει να υπερασπιστούν τη νίκη τους  (+2) όταν θα ταξιδέψουν στη Μάλαγα και φυσικά να αναζητήσουν και περισσότερα διπλά.

 Η ομάδα φαίνεται κουρασμένη και παίζει χωρίς ψυχολογία. Έχει έλλειψη (όπως έχουμε πολλάκις επισημάνει) σε γκαρντ και κατά συνέπεια σε φρεσκάδα, αφού έχουν επιβαρυνθεί πολύ οι Καλάθης, Διαμαντίδης και Φελντέιν. Και σήμερα αυτοί οι τρεις μοιράστηκαν τις θέσεις 1-2. Και πέραν της κόπωσης, όταν βγάζεις όλο το ματς με 3 γκαρντ για 2 θέσεις, οι αντίπαλοι θα σε πιέσουν, θα σου χαλάσουν την επίθεση, θα σε κουράσουν και φυσικά, δε θα έχεις την ενέργεια να παίξεις άμυνα... Και εκεί που πήγαινε να βρει ρυθμό και ο Παπάς ξανατραυματίστηκε!

Κάπως έτσι ο Παναθηναϊκός έχασε τα σουτ (3/24 - 12,5% στα τρίποντα), έχασε μερικά εύκολα λέι απ (21/43 - 48,8% δίποντα) και κόλλησε απίστευτα στην επίθεση. Σε αυτό φυσικά συνετέλεσε η ασφυκτική άμυνα του Ερ. Αστέρα, που είχε διαβάσει άψογα το πικ εν ρολ του Παναθηναϊκού και πως θα το σταματήσει. Και όταν η μπάλα έφτανε στο 5 στον Ραντούλιτσα, η άμυνα έκλεινε αρμονικά και παρενοχλούσε το ποστάρισμα του Σέρβου. Ήταν και άστοχοι οι πράσινοι απόψε, οπότε οι 63 πόντοι στην επίθεση ήταν κάτι το φυσιολογικό.

Οι Σέρβοι του Αστέρα έκλεισαν και ένα ακόμα επιθετικό όπλο του Παναθηναϊκού που ακούει στο όνομα Τζέιμς Φελντέιν. Ο Δομινικανός αγωνίστηκε 38', πέτυχε 12 πόντους αλλά ήταν πολύ άστοχος (4/14 FG). Και ο Καλάθης στον άσσο κλείστηκε καλά και δεν μπόρεσε εύκολα να οργανώσει την ομάδα. 

Ο Πάβλοβιτς ήταν για ακόμα μια φορά ανύπαρκτος. Έχει ποιότητα σαν παίκτης, αλλά είναι αργός και δεν μπόρεσε να μπει στο ρυθμό του παιχνιδιού. Απαιτείται να έχει πιο σταθερή απόδοση.

Από την άλλη αμυντικά ο Παναθηναϊκός ήταν ασταθής και κακός. Δεν είναι και το δυνατό του σημείο η άμυνα και ο Ερ. Αστέρας έκανε πάρτι στη ρακέτα των πράσινων. Ο Ζίρμπες κατά διαστήματα ήταν ασταμάτητος. Αν δεν έχανε και τις βολές ο Αστέρας, θα είχε διευρύνει αρκετά περισσότερο από νωρίς τη διαφορά. 

Το σκορ στο ημίχρονο ήταν 34-38. Η αφύπνιση που περιμέναμε δε συνέβη στο 2ο ημίχρονο. Μουδιασμένος έφυγε, μουδιασμένος μπήκε ο Παναθηναϊκός. Μόνο ο Ραντούλιτσα που λόγω των 2 φάουλ δεν είχε αγωνιστεί πολύ στο Α μέρος. Σαφής η τάση να περάσει η μπάλα από τα χέρια του και αυτό βελτιώνει την επίθεση των πράσινων. Όμως τα αργά πόδια των πράσινων σε αντίθεση με το γρήγορο μπάσκετ των Σέρβων και η κακή πικ εν ρολ άμυνα του Παναθηναϊκού δεν του επιτρέπει να επιστρέψει στο ματς και η διαφορά άνοιξε. Τελικό σκορ 63-74.

Από τους λίγους διακριθέντες (μαζί με τον Ραντούλιτσα) ο Γκιστ. Ήταν αυτός που σταμάτησε τον Μίλερ (στους 4 πόντους) και πήγε πολύ καλά και επιθετικά, που (στο τέλος τους αγώνα) έβγαλε και θεαματικά πικ εν ρολ με τον Καλάθη πάνω από τα βαρύ κορμί του Στίματς.

Zvezda downs Panathinaikos in Athens for maiden Group E victory

In a tough, defensive showdown that went down to the final minutes, Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade registered its first win in Top 16 Group E by downing Panathinaikos Athens 63-74 in front of 11,000 fans in the Greek capital on Thursday. Both teams now have 1-2 records in Group E. Maik Zirbes led the winners with 12 points, Branko Lazic and Vladimir Stimac each added 11 while Stefan Jovic flirted with a triple-double and finished with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for Zvezda. James Gist led Panathinaikos with 15 points and James Feldeine and Miroslav Raduljica each had 12 for the hosts. Stimac and Nemanja Dangubic shined early to give Zvezda a 14-16 lead after 10 minutes. A coast-to-coast layup by Feldeine gave Panathinaikos its last lead, 28-26. Zvezda found a go-to guy in Zirbes, who helped the visitors restore a 34-38 lead at halftime. Raduljica brought the Greens within 48-50, but a 0-9 run that Marko Guduric capped with a fast break layup boosted Zvezda's lead to 48-59 early in the fourth quarter. Lazic and Zirbes helped the visitors keep a safe margin from that moment until the final buzzer.

First quarter: Visitors shine on defense to take lead

Gist got Panathinaikos going with a put-back layup, which Ognjen Kuzmic followed with a second-chance basket for a 4-0 lead. Zvezda was held scoreless for more than two minutes until Tarence Kinsey banked in a close shot. Panathinaikos kept dominating the game with good defense, not allowing Zvezda to get Quincy Miller or Zirbes involved. The Greens also struggled to score, however, and a layup by Dangubic tied it at 4-4. Raduljica sank a jump hook, which Stimac erased with a layup. Gist found Nick Calathes for a fast break layup before Dangubic nailed a four-meter jumper. Calathes split free throws and a three-pointer by Jovic gave Zvezda its first lead, 9-11. Dimitris Diamantidis answered from downtown, but Lazic shined with a layup-plus-foul and a jump hook by Stimac boosted the guests' lead to 12-16. A dunk by Georgios Papagiannis brought Panathinaikos within 14-16 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Zirbes keeps Zvezda in charge

Vladimir Jankovic nailed a three-pointer early in the quarter, as Panathinaikos regained momentum on defense with big blocks by Papagiannis and Antonis Fotsis. Lazic rescued the guests with a bomb from downtown, which prompted Panathinaikos to call timeout at 17-19. Diamantidis made free throws, but Simonovic had a block on Calathes and hit a three-pointer at the other end for a 19-22 Zvezda edge. Calathes finished a great Panathinaikos play with a fast break layup and Kuzmic bettered Maik Zirbes's jump hook with a three-point play. Zirbes split foul shots, but Feldeine followed a coast-to-coast layup with free throws for a 28-26 Panathinaikos lead. Miller knocked down a couple of free throws and an unstoppable Zirbes gave Zvezda the lead, 28-32. Gist drew a foul and hit both attempts from the line, but Zirbes scored down low and a dunk by Dangubic made it a 5-point game. Kinsey scored again, but Papagiannis and a buzzer-beating layup by Gist fixed the halftime score at 34-38.

Third quarter: Stimac keeps visitors ahead

Jovic buried one from beyond the arc immediately after the break, as Panathinaikos struggled to organize its offense and committed a couple of turnovers. A red-hot Jovic fired in an eight-meter triple to give Zvezda its first double-digit lead, 34-44. The Greens were held scoreless for more than three minutes until Feldeine stepped up with a driving layup. Miller took over with a big basket off a spin move that caused Panathinaikos call timeout at 36-46. Calathes tried to change things with a backdoor layup and a jump hook by Raduljica gave the Greens hope at 40-46. Stimac scored around the basket, but Raduljica provided a highlight with a big dunk off the baseline and soon added free throws that made it a 4-point game. After Kinsey fed Stimac for a layup, Feldeine answered with a second-chance basket and a jump hook by Raduljica brought Panathinaikos even closer, 48-50. Stimac scored again and a jumper by Vasilije Micic gave Zvezda a 48-54 edges.

Fourth quarter: Zvezda holds on for historic win

Micic buried a three-pointer early in the quarter and a dunk by Guduric made it an 11-point game. Panathinaikos called timeout and Feldeine took over with a bomb from downtown. Simonovic scored in transition, but he didn't find much help around. Meanwhile, Raduljica answered with a two-handed slam to get within 53-61. Zvezda improved its defense when it mattered most, as the Greens even missed free throw attempts. Meanwhile, a three-pointer by Lazic sealed the outcome, 53-64, with four minutes to go. Kinsey made free throws and Stimac split attempts, but Gist brought Panathinaikos a bit closer, 58-67. Lazic and Zirbes buried foul shots, as both teams were now fighting for point difference. Panathinaikos never gave up, but Zvezda went back to Belgrade with a good-as-gold road win.

Αγχωτικός, κακός, αλλά τυχερός...

Σε ένα κακό μπασκετικά ματς, ο Παναθηναϊκός κατάφερε και πήρε σημαντική νίκη απέναντι στη Μάλαγα με 68-66 σε ένα φινάλε που η τύχη ήταν με το μέρος του. Η ζώνη του Πλάθα κόλλησε επιθετικά τους πράσινους δίνοντας το προβάδισμα στη Μάλαγα, αλλά τελικά η εμπειρία του Γκιστ που έβγαλε τρομερή άμυνα στον Νέλσον και πήρε καθοριστικό ριμπάουντ και φάουλ στο τέλος, και το μεγάλο τρίποντο του Φελντέιν, έκαναν το 68-66 (από 64-66) και ο Παναθηναϊκός πήρε τη σημαντική νίκη. Έκανε το 1-1 και ατενίζει το μέλλον του ομίλου με αισιοδοξία.

 Ο Παναθηναϊκός ξεκίνησε καλά, κυκλοφόρησε σωστά τη μπάλα, την πέρασε από το 5 και είχε τον Καλάθη για ακόμα μια φορά σε καλή απόδοση.

Τα πάντα όμως άλλαξαν στο 2ο ημίχρονο με τη πολύ καλά στημένη ζώνη του Πλάθα. Οι πράσινοι 2-3 φορές μόνο κυκλοφόρησαν καλά την μπάλα. Κρίσιμο 4ο φάουλ του Καλάθη στο 28'. Μέχρι τότε έπαιζαν μαζί αρκετά στο 1-2 οι Καλάθης - Διαμαντίδης. Το κύριο σκοράρισμα των πράσινων είναι στο διάστημα αυτό από τον Πάβλοβιτς που σκοράρει απέξω με σουτ. Τα λάθη όμως στην άμυνα δίνουν πόντους στη Μάλαγα που λόγω έλλειψης του Κουσμίνσκας, οι Ισπανοί παίζουν με πολλά γκαρντ και έτσι πιέζουν καλά τα (λίγα) γκαρντ του Παναθηναϊκού (που πονάει στη θέση).

Έτσι ο Διαμαντίδης αρχίζει και κουράζεται (ζητάει αλλαγές στα σκριν, κάνει φάουλ στην άμυνα αφού χάνει εύκολα τον αντίπαλό του) και ο Παππάς που τον αντικατέστησε δεν μπόρεσε να βοηθήσει ούτε επιθετικά, ούτε αμυντικά. Η ζώνη του Πλάθα έχει κολλήσει επιθετικά τους πράσινους που σε όλο το 4ο δεκάλεπτο έχει σκοράρει για 6' μόνο 3 πόντους. Η Μάλαγα κλέβει μπάλες και ελέγχει το ρυθμό, με τον  Σμιθ σκοράρει κατά βούληση και έτσι η Μάλαγα κάνει το 64-66.

Μετά το 5ο φάουλ του Καλάθη, ο Τζόρτζεβιτς επιλέγει έξυπνο χαμηλό σχήμα στην άμυνα με Διαμαντίδη - Φελντέιν - Πάβλοβιτς - Γιάνκοβιτς - Γκιστ και αλλαγές σε όλα τα σκριν. Εκεί ο Γκιστ παίρνει τον Νέλσον στην αλλαγή μετά τον πικ εν ρολ και βγάζει άμυνα από αυτές που μόνο αυτός ξέρει, ταπώνοντας μεγαλοπρεπώς τον αντίπαλό του. 

Το 64-66 παραμένει και στην επίθεση ο Φελντέιν βγαίνει για τρεις, αλλά αστοχεί. Μαχητικό ριμπάουντ και φάουλ από τον Γκιστ που ευστοχεί στην 1η βολή. Αστοχεί στη 2η, αλλά από τα χέρια του Τόμας η μπάλα είναι ξανά για τους πράσινους στα 23'. Ο Φελντέιν ξαναβγαίνει για τρεις με πολύ καλύτερες προϋποθέσεις αυτή τη φορά και ευστοχεί! Είναι το 1ο του από τα 5 τρίποντα που εκτέλεσε και το κρισιμότερο. Το 68-66 είναι γεγονός και στα τελευταία 11.4" ο Παναθηναϊκός βγάζει άμυνα καθώς έκλεισε καλά τους σουτέρ της Μάλαγα, που ήταν στατική και τελικά η μπάλα έφτασε στον Σμιθ που αστόχησε.

Diamantidis leads Panathinaikos to big home win

In an outstanding back-and-forth battle that literally went down to the final shot, Panathinaikos Athens registered its first win in Top 16 Group E by edging Unicaja Malaga 68-66 in the Greek capital on Friday. Both teams now have 1-1 records in Group E. Dimitris Diamantidis led the winners with 17 points and 7 assists. Sasha Pavlovic added 10 points for Unicaja. Jamar Smith led Unicaja with 22 points while Dani Diez grabbed 10 rebounds for the guests. Diez and Smith helped Unicaja to an early lead, 7-8. Panathinaikos found a go-to guy in Diamantidis, who led the Greens to a 21-17 lead after 10 minutes. A three-pointer by Edwin Jackson tied it at 24-24, but Diamantidis and James Feldeine fueled a 7-0 run to restore a 31-24 Panathinaikos margin. Unicaja recovered and a layup by Diez tied the game at 33-33, but Diamantidis and Nick Calathes put Panathinaikos back ahead, 37-33, at halftime. A three-pointer by Pavlovic gave Panathinaikos its biggest lead, 47-39, but an outstanding Smith brought Unicaja within 58-55 after 30 minutes. Carlos Suarez struck from downtown to complete his team's comeback at 61-62. Unicaja held a 64-66 lead already in the final minute, but a free throw by Gist and a go-ahead triple by Feldeine gave the Greens a 68-66 edge and Smith missed from downtown at the buzzer.

First quarter: Diamantidis shines early for Greens

Calathes got Panathinaikos going with a driving layup and bettered De Marcus Nelson's free throws with a corner triple that gave the Greens a 5-2 lead. Nelson kept pacing Unicaja with a put-back basket, which Vasilis Charalampopoulos matched with foul shots. Dani Diez shined with a backdoor layup, as Unicaja improved its defense. A four-meter jumper by Smith soon gave the guests their first lead, 7-8. James Feldeine scored in transition and a layup by Ognjen Kuzmic restored an 11-8 Panathinaikos lead. Diez took over with a fast break layup, before Sasha Pavlovic made free throws. A three-pointer by Smith tied it at 13-13. Diamantidis provided a highlight with a driving layup, which he followed with free throws. Alberto Diaz split foul shots and a catch-and-shoot triple by Edwin Jackson tied it again, 17-17. Miroslav Raduljica scored down low and a driving layup by Diamantidis gave the Greens a 21-17 edge after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Panathinaikos keeps slim lead

Fran Vazquez rescued Unicaja with a put-back slam early in the quarter. Antonis Fotsis made free throws and a step-back jumper by Jackson kept Unicaja within 23-21. Kuzmic split foul shots and a three-pointer by Jackson tied it at 24-24. Diamantidis nailed a triple off a Panathinaikos timeout and Calathes banked in a close shot to give the Greens some fresh air. Unicaja had started to take off-balance shots without much success and a steal by James Gist allowed Feldeine to give his team a 31-24 margin, prompting a Unicaja to call timeout. Smith beat the shot clock with an off-balance three-pointer and free throws by Diez kept Unicaja within 31-29. Diamantidis found Georgios Papagiannis for an alley-oop slam, but Will Thomas hit foul shots and a fast break layup by Diez tied it at 33-33. Diamantidis made free throws and Calathes restored a 37-33 Panathinaikos lead at halftime.

Third quarter: Unicaja keeps all options alive

Radujlica scored around the basket immediately after the break, but Richard Hendrix quickly answered with a jumper. Raduljica fed Gist for a close basket, but Thomas matched it with a one-handed dunk before a layup by Hendrix made it 41-39. Gist rescued Panathinaikos with a corner triple and Pavlovic copied him with a bomb from downtown that caused Unicaja to stop the game at 47-39. Gist split free throws to cap a 7-0 run, but Diaz stepped up with a three-pointer. Thomas split foul shots and Smith hit both attempts to bring Unicaja within 48-45. Calathes found Raduljica for a two-handed slam and after Vazquez nailed his trademark mid-range jumper, Pavlovic buried another triple for a 53-47 Panathinaikos lead. Smith and Diamantidis joined the three-point shootout, as Calathes headed to the bench with 4 fouls. Smith kept pushing Unicaja with back-to-back jumpers to bring his team within 58-55.

Fourth quarter: down till the final shot

Both teams struggled to score early in the fourth quarter until a red-hot Smith shined with a driving layup. Panathinaikos struggled to score for almost two minutes until Kuzmic took over with a three-point play. Nemanja Nedovic hit a mid-range jumper and a three-pointer by Carlos Suarez completed Unicaja's comeback, 61-62. The Greens struggled against the guests' 2-3 zone defense and brought Calathes back in the game to improve their ball circulation. Smith swished another jumper and an off-balance basket by Pavlovic brought Panathinaikos within 63-64 with three3 minutes left. Diamantidis split free throws, but a dunk by Thomas put Unicaja back ahead, 64-66. Calathes missed twice from downtown, but great defense gave Panathinaikos the ball back with 34.4 seconds remaining. Gist drew a foul and split free throws with 23.8 seconds left. He missed his second attempt, but the Greens got the ball back, as Thomas could not grab the offensive board. Diamantidis found Feldeine for a three-pointer that restored a 68-66 Panathinaikos edge with 11.4 seconds left. Unicaja had a chance to win the game, but Smith missed from downtown at the buzzer.

Μίλησε η διαφορά πείρας

Με όπλο όπως πάντα τη γρανιτένια άμυνα και εξαιρετικούς τους Σπανούλη, Μάντζαρη, Πρίντεζη και Χάντερ, ο Ολυμπιακός πέρασε νικηφόρα με 76-82 από τη Μπασκονία του Γιάννη Μπουρούση, έδρα στην οποία είχε ηττηθεί στη regular season.

Ο Μάντζαρης εξαιρετικός οργανωτικά και εκτελεστικά (3/4 τρίποντα) όποτε χρειάστηκε.
Ένας Σπανούλης από τα παλιά με καθοριστικά σουτ όταν η Λαμποράλ πλησίαζε στο σκορ, τις έκοβε τα πόδια.
Ο Πρίντεζης αν και έκανε λάθη και φαινόταν να μην είναι σε καλή βραδιά, έβαλε σιωπηρά 15 πόντους.

Ο Χάντερ (MVP - PRI 18) ήταν πολύ μεστός. Όσο βρισκόταν στο παρκέ η ομάδα είχε αισθητή παρουσία και σίγουρους πόντους μέσα στη ρακέτα. Μόλις μπήκε ο Τζέιμς άλλαξε η ισορροπία και μείωσε η Λαμποράλ τη διαφορά που πήρε στην αρχή ο Ολυμπιακός. Αν και ο Τζέιμς βελτιώθηκε σημαντικά στο 2ο ημίχρονο και αυτός.

Το 18-24 το 1ου δεκαλέπτου διευρύνθηκε περισσότερο στο 2ο δεκάλεπτο όπου ο Ολυμπιακός βελτίωσε και σκλήρυνε την άμυνά του. Οι διαιτητές σφύριζαν εύκολα τις επαφές και έτσι οι ερυθρόλευκοι συμπλήρωναν γρήγορα τα 5 ομαδικά, απόρροια και της πιεστικής τους άμυνας.

Πίεση full court από τη Λαμποράλ για να μαζέψει τη διαφορά, αλλά η καλή άμυνα του Ολυμπιακού και η απίστευτα υψηλή ευστοχία για τα δεδομένα των Πειραιωτών στις βολές, δεν επιτρέπουν στους Βάσκους να πλησιάσουν. Σκορ ημιχρόνου 34-43.

Παρόμοιο το σκηνικό και στο 2ο ημίχρονο, με τον Kill Bill να απαντάει στα καλάθια του Mike James. 

Κάνει σερί ο Ολυμπικός και φτάνει τη διαφορά στους 17, αλλά μετά κόλλησε στην επίθεση, έκανε και αρκετά λάθη στον αιφνιδιασμό και έδωσε στη Λαμποράλ την τελευταία της ευκαιρία για το come back, το οποίο όμως  δεν ήρθε ποτέ, παρά τη χαλάρωση των ερυθρόλευκων στο τέλος. Το τελικό 76-82 δεν αντικατοπτρίζει πλήρως την εικόνα του αγώνα αφού ο Ολυμπιακός ήταν πολύ καλύτερος και φάνηκε η πείρα των παικτών του.

Στα ΣΥΝ και η εμφάνιση του Χάκετ. Στα ΠΛΗΝ τα τριάρια του Ολυμπιακού που δεν ήταν σε καλή βραδιά και δε βοήθησαν ιδιαίτερα στο σκοράρισμα.

Το 2/2 είναι γεγονός και ο Ολυμπιακός έχει δύο θεωρητικά εύκολα ματς με Μπάμπεργκ εντός και Ζαλγκίρις εκτός που πρέπει να τα χτυπήσει πριν παίξει με Ρεάλ, ΤΣΣΚΑ και Χίμκι.

Olympiacos wins in Vitoria to claim top spot in Group F

Olympiacos Piraeus came up with a strong defensive performance to grab an important 76-82 road victory over Laboral Kuxta Vitoria Gasteiz in Group F. Olympiacos held Laboral 19.2 points below its season average at home and received 19 points from Vassilis Spanoulis to improve to 2-0 in the Top 16. Spanoulis nailed 3 three-pointers and in doing so became the 10th player in competition history to make 300 career triples. Othello Hunter added 17 points, while Georgios Printezis chipped in 15 points and Vangelos Mantzaris 14 for Olympiacos. Laboral dropped to 1-1 in the group despite Mike James scoring 16 points. Ioannis Bourousis posted 12 points and 7 rebounds in the loss. It was the third matchup between these teams this season with both sides having won at home during the regular season.

First quarter: Mantzaris on target from long range, Hunter productive off bench

Laboral coach Velimir Perasovic kept the same starting line-up with Darius Adams, Fabien Causeur, Adam Hanga, Toko Shengelia and Ilimane Diop. Olympiacos coach Giannis Sfairopoulos made just one change as D.J. Strawberry started for Ioannis Papapetrou alongside Spanoulis, Mantzaris, Printezis and Nikola Milutinov. Adams started the game in great fashion with a driving layup and a pass to Causeur for a layup and a 4-0 lead. Mantzaris got Olympiacos on the board with a three-pointer, but Adams nailed a triple of his own to put Laboral up 7-3. Olympiacos was able to get some stops defensively and Printezis evened the game with a layup. Mantzaris’s second three had the guests ahead 7-10. Shengalia’s free throws stopped the run, but it was 9-13 after Hunter’s three-point play. Causeur knocked down a three-pointer, but the Olympiacos offense continued to produce with Mantzaris free throws and another Hunter three-point play to make it 12-20. Bourousis entered the game and had an immediate impact with an inside basket before Shengelia and Hanga both split their free throws to close the gap to 16-20. Olympiacos’s reserves continued to perform with Daniel Hackett and Hunter scoring for a 16-24 lead. Two Bourousis foul shots had the gap down to 18-24 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Olympiacos pulls away with 4-14 run

Hunter opened the quarter with a dunk to up the cushion to 18-26. Kim Tillie answered with 2 straight baskets for Laboral to trim it to 4 points. Dimitrios Agravanis came off the bench for Olympiacos to hit a three-pointer that got the lead to 22-29. Laboral was able to come up with some stops with Mike James hitting free throws and a jumper as the deficit came down to 28-29. Olympiacos called for a timeout and found some answers with Mantzaris racing past Bourousis for a layup and Printezis scoring inside for a 28-33 lead – and a Laboral time out. Olympiacos turned defense to offense with new acquisition Darius Johnson-Odom feeding Printezis for a fast break layup and it was 28-37 after Spanoulis free throws. Darko Planicic came off the bench for 2 free throws and a put-back and Laboral was to within 32-39. But Spanoulis nailed a three from the left wing and Mantzaris hit a free throw. Shengelia finished the scoring in the first half with a nice catch and layup to bring Laboral within 34-43 at the break.

Third quarter: James’s 9 points help Laboral get back into game

Printezis opened the second half with a push shot from the baseline and then nailed a wide-open three after some fine team passing for a 34-48 lead. Shengelia threw a lefty dunk at the other end for Laboral’s first points. But Printezis scored again, Spanoulis made free throws and Hunter converted a three-point play to push the margin to 38-55. The home team got a couple of stops and trimmed the deficit to 45-55 after 4 Bourousis free throws and a Tillie three-point play. Olympiacos called a timeout, but failed to convert twice and Laboral got out on the break for a Jaka Blazic steal and layup and 2 Hanga foul shots to complete an 11-0 run that made it 49-55. Spanoulis stopped the run with a jumper for Olympiacos’ first basket in 2:27 minutes. Mike James nailed a triple to cut the gap to 5 points, but Spanoulis answered right back with a three of his own. Mike James did finish the third quarter with a buzzer-beating jumper off the glass to make it 56-62.

Fourth quarter: Shawn James helps Reds close it out

Spanoulis opened the fourth with a three and Shawn James converted a three-point play as the lead reached 12 again. Diop’s jumper finally got Laboral on the board with 7:35 minutes to play. Shawn James and Diop swapped free throws before Shawn James threw down a big dunk to make it 60-72 with six minutes remaining. Mantzaris extended the margin to 60-75 with a three-pointer from the left wing. Hanga punched right back from long range and Mike James drove in for a layup. Bourousis and Hanga combined for 3 free throws to get the margin to 68-76 with less than three minutes left. But Printezis stopped the Laboral surge and Hunter’s free throws had the cushion back at 12 points with less than two minutes left. Knowing that every point could count later in the group, Blazic hit 5 big points to finish with just a 6-point loss.
