Επίθεση στην επίθεση...

Ο Ολυμπιακός πήρε το διπλό στο Μιλάνο, βάζοντας γερή υποψηφιότητα για τη μία εκ των δύο πρώτων θέσεων που θα του δώσει και το πλεονέκτημα έδρας στα Playoffs. Νίκησε την επίθεση της Αρμάνι με επίθεση, καθώς αμυντικά οι Πειραιώτες είχαν θεματάκια. Τελικά εξαργύρωσε το πολύ δυνατό του ξεκίνημα (1ο δεκάλεπτο 12-22) καθώς από το 2ο και μετά η Αρμάνι αξιοποίησε τα κενά στην άμυνα των ερυθρολεύκων και ήταν πιο παραγωγική (τα υπόλοιπα δεκάλεπτα 20-20, 24-24, 18-17). Κλειδί για τη νίκη και η ευστοχία σε κρίσιμα σουτ τριών πόντων σε καίρια σημεία (όταν η ομάδα είχε κολλήσει επιθετικά) στο 2ο ημίχρονο. Τελικό σκορ 74-83 και με τη νίκη αυτή ο Ολυμπιακός κάνει το 8-1 όντας μόνος πρώτος στον όμιλο. Τον ακολουθούν Φενέρ και ΤΣΣΚΑ με 7-2. Σημαντικό το επόμενο ματς για την διακράτηση της 1ης-2ης θέσης στο ΣΕΦ με τη Φενέρ.

Ο Ολυμπιακός μπήκε πολύ δυναμικά στο ματς και αιφνιδίασε την Αρμάνι. Στη συνέχεια οι Ιταλοί άρχισαν να σκληραίνουν την άμυνά τους και δυσκόλεψαν στο σκοράρισμα τους ερυθρόλευκους. Ο Ολυμπιακός όμως όταν η διαφορά κατέβαινε στους 2-4 πόντους, πάντα έβρισκε λύσεις ευστοχώντας και από μακριά. Έτσι ανέκτησε μια διψήφια διαφορά 10 πόντων για το ημίχρονο. 

Οι Ιταλοί παίζοντας το τελευταίο τους χαρτί στο Top-16, μπήκαν να χτυπήσουν το ματς. Αλλά και πάλι το ίδιο σκηνικό είχε στηθεί στο Mediolanum Forum. Με ηγέτη το Σπανούλη και δυναμική front line, έσπαγε το pressing της Αρμάνι που πήγαινε σε double team στο playmaker του Ολυμπιακού σε half court press. Όμως τα γκαρντ του Ολυμπιακού έσπαγαν είτε με drive είτε με σωστές πάσες την πίεση και έβρισκαν σκοράρισμα. Η Αρμάνι δε φημίζεται για την άμυνά της και το απόδειξε και σήμερα. Προσπάθησε όπως πάντα με τα επιθετικά όπλα της να πάρει το ματς, αλλά αυτό δεν ήταν αρκετό, καθώς φάνηκε πως και ο Ολυμπιακός ήταν αποφασισμένος να καθαρίσει το ματς.

Και η άμυνα των ερυθρολεύκων σήμερα δεν ήταν καλή. Είχε αρκετά προβλήματα, καθώς ο Σφαιρόπουλος επέλεξε μια σύνθετη άμυνα με heads-out αλλά και αλλαγές στα σκριν (προφανώς για να σταματήσει τα σουτ των Ιταλών που αρέσκονται να σουτάρουν με το που βρουν χώρο) και τον ψηλό μέσα στη ρακέτα να καλύπτει ουσιαστικά και τους δύο παίκτες της base line που έχουν ακροβολιστεί για σουτ, αλλά και τον παίκτη που κόβει μετά το πικ. Η Αρμάνι την έσπαγε εύκολα με πάσες στο τρίποντο, αλλά ευτυχώς για τον Ολυμπιακό απόψε είχε 4/23 τρίποντα, κάτι που βέβαια ήταν καθοριστικό για τη νίκη των ερυθρολεύκων, καθώς η Αρμάνι είναι ομάδα ρυθμού.

Σούπερ και MVP ο αρχηγός που ευστόχησε σε κρίσιμα τρίποντα στο 3ο δεκάλεπτο, όταν η Αρμάνι προσπαθούσε να το γυρίσει) και μοίρασε και 8 ασίστ, διαβάζοντας το "χαζό" pressing της Αρμάνι στα γκαρντ του Ολυμπιακού στο 2ο ημίχρονο. 

Εξαιρετική απόδοση από τα 5άρια. Ο Ντάνστον (12 π. - 6 ρ. - 2 κοψ.) ξεκίνησε το ματς σαν σίφουνας θυμίζοντας τον καλό περσινό του εαυτό. Έκανε και ένα εντυπωσιακό κάρφωμα για highlight! Και ο Χάντερ (14 π. - 6 ρ. - 2 ασ.) βοήθησε πολύ στο σκοράρισμα μέσα από τη ρακέτα, ποστάροντας δυναμικά και με καλή τεχνική τους αντιπάλους του. Έχει βελτιωθεί αισθητά και σε αυτόν τον το τομέα. Προσέφερε δε και αυτό ένα εντυπωσιακό alley-oop κάρφωμα από πάσα του Σπανούλη.

Απόντων των υπολοίπων 4αριών (τραυματίες Πέτγουεϊ - Αγραβάνης - Τσαϊρέλης), ο Πρίντεζης κάλυψε επάξια της θέση με σημαντική προσφορά στο σκοράρισμα (13 π. - 7 ρ.). Το κενό στο 4 κάλυψαν επάξια οι Ντάρντεν - Λοτζέσκι - Παπαπέτρου που αν και έχασαε ο Ολυμπιακός αρκετά ριμπάουντ, στις προσωπικές άμυνες τα πήγαν καλά. Ο νεαρός Παπαπέτρου έκανε δυναμική επιστροφή, έβαλε το τριποντάκι του, και έπαιξε σκυλίσια άμυνα στον Τζεντίλε που απόψε ήταν ο δήμιος του Ολυμπιακού (24 π.). Ο Ντάρντεν ήταν το τριάρι που έδωσε περισσότερες λύσεις επιθετικά, καθώς ο Λοτζέσκι ήταν σε βραδιά χαμηλότερη των στάνταρντς του.

Σημαντική η συνεισφορά και των υπόλοιπων γκαρντ. Ο Σλούκας αν και δεν πήγε καλά στο 2ο δεκάλεπτο, στο τέλος όταν επιστρατεύτηκε για 2η φορά, κινήθηκε έξυπνα με την μπάλα και κέρδισε πολλά φάουλ από τα κουρασμένα κορμιά των Ιταλών αμυντικών, που έπαιζαν γενικά (σκληρή) άμυνα με τα χέρια (είχε 6 κερδισμένα φάουλ). Και ο Μάντζαρης ήταν πολύ θετικός. Πήρε χωρίς να το σκεφτεί τα σουτ όταν του δόθηκε η ευκαιρία και έβαλε κάποια κρίσιμα, ενώ μοίρασε και 4 ασίστ.

Spanoulis, Hunter lead Olympiacos to eighth win

Olympiacos Piraeus kept first place in Top 16 Group F by downing EA7 Emporio Armani Milano 74-83 on the road on Friday. Olympiacos improved to 8-1 in Group F and could qualify for the playoffs as soon as next week. Milan dropped to 2-7 and has slim chances to stay alive in the competition. Vassilis Spanoulis led the winners with 14 points and 8 assists. Othello Hunter also had 14 points, Georgios Printezis added 13, Bryant Dunston 12 while Tremmell Darden scored 10 for Olympiacos. Alessandro Gentile led Milan with 24 points. MarShon Brooks added 17 for the hosts. Darden and Dunston shined early to give Olympiacos a double-digit lead, 4-15. Olympiacos led 12-22 after 10 minutes, but Brooks and Bruno Cerella helped Milan get as close as 25-26. Olympiacos found a new go-to guy in Hunter, who got help from Spanoulis to restore a double-digit lead, 32-42, at halftime. Gentile tried to change things for Milan after the break, but Hunter and an outstanding Printezis ensured the guests kept their lead, 56-66, through three quarters. Olympiacos improved its defense in crunch time, as Printezis and Dunston stepped up to seal the outcome minutes before the final buzzer.

First quarter: Dunston sparks strong Olympiacos start

Tremmell Darden got Olympiacos going with a free throw and a put-back basket by Printezis gave the Reds a 0-3 lead. After Gentile hit a six-meter shot, Darden nailed a turnaround jumper and a layup by Bryant Dunston boosted the guests' lead to 2-7. Gentile kept pushing Milan with free throws, however Darden nailed a baseline jumper and Spanoulis found Dunston for a slam that caused the hosts to call timeout at 4-11. Dunston hit free throws and Spanoulis scored in penetration to cap a 0-8 Olympiacos run. Brooks struck from downtown and Daniel Hackett added a layup to bring Milan within 9-15. Matt Lojeski stepped up with a fast break layup and Printezis scored again to restore a double-digit Olympiacos lead, 9-19. Dunston took over with a wild dunk-and-foul, which Brooks matched with his own three-point play to keep Milan within 12-22 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Milan rallies, buts Reds respond

Joe Ragland stepped up with a backdoor layup early in the quarter, as Olympiacos tried a smaller lineup with Darden at power forward. Ragland scored again in penetration, before the Reds called timeout at 16-22. Brooks hit a step-back jumper, but Hunter scored around the basket. Another driving layup by Ragland made it a 4-point game. Darden nailed a stop-and-pop jumper, but Shawn James split foul shots and Brooks nailed a jumper of the dribble to bring the hosts within 23-26. Vangelis Mantzaris bettered Bruno Cerella's jumper with a corner triple. Cerella insisted with a driving basket, but Hunter hit a jump hook and a free throw by Spanoulis restored a 27-32 Olympiacos lead. Spanoulis hit a three-pointer and fed Hunter for an alley-oop slam, but Ragland answered from downtown and Linas Kleiza added a put-back basket to make it 32-37. Spanoulis and Printezis hit foul shots and a layup by Hunter gave the Reds a 32-42 advantage at halftime.

Third quarter: Gentile keeps home team alive

Hackett buried a six-meter jumper immediately after the break and a free throw by Brooks gave Milan hope at 35-42. Samardo Samuels dunked, but Mantzaris answered from downtown for a 37-45 Olympiacos lead. Gentile took over with an off-balance basket in transition and hit 3 of 4 free throws to keep Milan within 42-45. Oliver Lafayette found Printezis for a layup, as Olympiacos entered the foul penalty. After Hackett and Gentile split foul shots, Hunter scored down low. Gentile kept pacing the hosts with a backdoor layup, but Spanoulis did better with a triple and found Printezis for an alley-oop layup. Gentile scored again, but Ioannis Papapetrou came off the bench and immediately delivered with a three from the corner. After Brooks scored in penetration, Samuels added a layup and Gentile kept Milan within 54-57. Kostas Sloukas and Brooks exchanged jumpers before Spanoulis struck downtown for a 56-62 advantage. Hunter scored in the paint and Printezis added his trademark one-handed baseline jumper - from the same spot as the 2012 Euroleague-winning shot - to give Olympiacos a 56-66 margin.

Fourth quarter: Olympiacos stays strong to snatch victory

Hunter banked in a close shot early in the quarter to cap a 0-9 run. Gentile stepped up with a close jumper, which Sloukas bettered with a layup-plus-foul that made it a 13-point game. Gentile stayed on fire with a driving basket and free throws. Milan entered the foul penalty with over seven minutes left, but even though Sloukas made free throws, Kleiza answered from downtown to make it 65-73. Printezis took over with another backdoor layup and a close basket by Dunston kept Olympiacos out of trouble at 65-77. Milan struggled to score when it mattered most and a free throw by Dunston seemed to seal the outcome at 65-78 with three minutes left. David Moss nailed his trademark corner three-pointer and Gentile scored in the low post, but a three-pointer by Lojeski allowed Olympiacos to start celebrating yet another road win.

Ήττα... 2ου δεκαλέπτου...

Πολύ δυνατός στο ξεκίνημα ο Παναθηναϊκός, αποφασισμένος να κερδίσει το ματς. Παίρνει το 1ο δεκάλεπτο με 21-16 και βασικούς του Σλότερ, Διαμαντίδη, Γιάνκοβιτς, Γκιστ και Μπατίστα. Σημείο κλειδί για την καλή παρουσία των πρασίνων στο ματς ήταν ο Μπατίστα που απασχόλησε αρκετά τους ψηλούς της Μπαρτσελόνα. 

Στα τέλη του 1ου-αρχές 2ου δεκαλέπτου που έγιναν αλλαγές λόγω κόπωσης, είχαν ως αποτέλεσμα ο Παναθηναϊκός να χάσει τη χημεία του και δεχόμενος 26 πόντους στο 2ο δεκάλεπτο (ενώ σκόραρε μόλις 11), ήταν και ο κύριος παράγοντας της ήττας, καθώς δεν μπόρεσε να ξαναμπεί μπροστά στο σκορ.

Ο Παππάς δεν μπόρεσε να περιορίσει το Ναβάρο που "σκότωσε" με τα σουτ του τον Παναθηναϊκό (δεν είναι να τον αφήσεις να βάλει τα 2-3 πρώτα...). Ακόμα και ο Αμπρίνες πήρε τον αέρα του Γιάνκοβιτς και έκανε τη ζημιά στους πράσινους. 

Βλέποντας τον Γιάνκοβιτς να έχει χάσει την ψυχραιμία του και το καθαρό μυαλό, όταν έκανε το 3ο του φάουλ έπρεπε να τον βγάλει ο Ιβάνοβιτς για να φρεσκάρει (πνευματικά) την ομάδα.

Επίσης ο Νέλσον ως αλλαγή του Διαμαντίδη, δεν οργάνωσε καλά το παιχνίδι. Ξέρουν και οι αντίπαλοί του ότι δεν είναι καλός σουτέρ και το αφήνουν στις περιστροφές ελεύθερο. (Χαρακτηριστική η τελευταία κρίσιμη επίθεση στο ματς του Παναθηναϊκού που έφτασε η μπάλα στα χέρια του και έχοντας το - σχετικά - ελεύθερο τρίποντο το φοβήθηκε και έχασε τη μπάλα από τα χέρια του) Ίσως θα μπορούσε να χρησιμοποιεί και λίγο τον Μποχωρίδη ο Ιβάνοβιτς να δει πως θα τα πάει. 

Η 2η 5αδα λοιπόν έχασε το ρυθμό που είχε ο Παναθηναϊκός στο 1ο δεκάλεπτο. Αντίθετα η Μπάρτσα με τα εύστοχα σουτ βρήκε ρυθμό. Έδειξε ανώτερη ομάδα. Ήταν πολύ ενεργητική και στην άμυνα και στην επίθεση, πίεσε τον Παναθηναϊκό και τον οδήγησε σε λάθη. Τα άσχημα νταμπλ τιμ και τις αργές περιστροφές στην άμυνα του Παναθηναϊκού διαβάζει σωστά η Μπάρστα τελειώνοντας τις φάσεις και πληγώνοντας τους πράσινους. 

Το ημίχρονο έκοψε το ρυθμό της Μπαρτσελόνα, υπέπεσε σε λάθη και ο Παναθναϊκός μείωσε τη διαφορά που είχε φτάσει ως και στο +12. 

Κράτησε και πάλι την ίδια 5αδα για 8 περίπου λεπτά ο Ιβάνοβιτς. Μετά την άλλαξε σταδιακά αυτή τη φορά. Ευτυχώς βελτιώθηκε ο Νέλσον και ανέβασε την ομάδα. Ο Γκιστ έδωσε ενέργεια που δεν έπαιξε πολύ στο 1ο ημίχρονο κερδίζοντας και αρκετά φάουλ από τους Καταλανούς.

Δεν μπορεί όμως να φτάσει την Μπαρτσελόνα κυρίως λόγω της κακής αμυντική του λειτουργίας. Αφήνει στις περιστροφές τα σουτ και τα τρώει. Ευτυχώς βγήκε ο Pleiss με 5 φάουλ που ήταν ασταμάτητος από του "πράσινους" αμυντικούς. Έκανε φοβερά πικ εν ρολ με τον Ουέρτας. Αντίθετα ο Τόμιτς δε βοήθησε πολύ στο σκοράρισμα την Μπαρτσελόνα. Τους πράσινους "σκότωσε" ακόμα και ο Ντόλεμαν με 21 π. που έβαλε τα κρίσιμα ελεύθερα σουτ. 

Τελευταία 3 λεπτά έγιναν διαγωνισμός τριπόντων καθώς επήλθε σωματική και πνευματική κούραση στους παίκτες και των δύο ομάδων. Η Μπαρτσελόνα διατηρεί ένα σταθερό προβάδισμα 5 πόντων που δεν καταφέρνει ποτέ ο Παναθηναϊκός να τη φτάσει, λόγω αστείων λαθών που χάνει τσάμπα κατοχές. 

Με δυο σερί κρίσιμα τρίποντα από Σλοτερ και Γκιστ το -8 το κάνει -2. Αλλά το μοιραίο λάθος από  το Νέλσον που χάνει την μπάλα από τα χέρια του (δεν ήταν σίγουρος τι ήθελε να κάνει) και κάνει κακή πάσα στον Γκιστ που του φεύγει και αυτού με τη σειρά του από τα χέρια δίνοντας την κατοχή στους Καταλανούς.

Ούτε το μοναδικό off-balance τρίποντο του Διαμαντίδη στη συνέχεια με ταμπλό δε στάθηκε ικανό να ανατρέψει την κατάσταση. Τελικό σκορ 77-81.

Στα highlights της βραδιάς οι τάπες των Γιάνκοβιτς και Διαμαντίδη στον Τόμιτς. 

Ο Ιβάνοβιτς σαφώς και χάλασε τη χημεία της ομάδας με το rotation που επέλεξε να κάνει. Δείχνει και να ξεχνάει παίχτες στον πάγκο. Άφησε τον Γκιστ εκτός πολύ στο 1ο ημίχρονο, ξέχασε τον Γιανκοβιτς στο 2ο...

Μετά και την αποψινή ήττα του από την Μπαρτσελόνα, ο Παναθηναϊκός, όπως είχαμε επισημάνει και σε προηγούμενες αναρτήσεις, ουσιαστικά θα παλέψει για την 3η-4η θέση, καθώς δεν τον ευνοεί και πρόγραμμά του πολύ.

FC Barcelona climbs into second place by stopping Panathinaikos

FC Barcelona took the lead for good in the final minute of the first half and held off Panathianikos’s second-half rallies for a 77-81 victory at Olympic Sports Center Athens on Thursday. The win lifted Barcelona to 6-3 and into a tie with Maccabi Electra for second place. Barcelona hosts Maccabi next week. Panathinaikos dropped to 5-4 and sits in fourth place in Top 16 Group E. Justin Doellman posted 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners, while Juan Carlos Navarro scored 17 and Tibor Pleiss netted 15 in as many minutes before fouling out. Esteban Batista posted 16 points and 9 rebounds, James Gist scored 14 and Dimitris Diamantidis totalled 12 points and 6 assists for the Greens. Batista helped stake the hosts to an early lead, but Alex Abrines scored 8 points and Tomas Satoransky delivered 4 assists in a 0-12 run to end the first half with Barcelona ahead 32-42. Panathinaikos got within 2 in both the third and fourth quarters, but Barcelona always had an answer as it held on for the victory.

First quarter: Batista helps Greens take charge early

Panathinaikos won the opening tip and struck first through a Gist three-pointer. After a pair of rejections from Vlantimir Giankovits and Batista, Ante Tomic split free throws for the visitors’ first point. Batista went to work inside with a pair of baskets inside to make it 7-1. Doellman’s offensive rebound set up Satoransky for a Barcelona three. After Gist scored for the Greens inside, Doellman scored and was fouled. Batista scored a second-chance basket and Doellman drilled a three to make it 11-9. Batista and Diamantidis re-extended the Greens’ advantage to 6. Pleiss came in for the visitors and Satoransky immediately found him for a slam, but Antonis Fotsis dunked and was fouled by Pleiss at the other end. Navarro drained an open three in transition. Fotsis quickly answered with a jumper. Pleiss and Fotsis made free throws and Loukas Mavrokefalides’s tip in was ruled to com after the buzzer, leaving the score 21-16 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Abrines, Satoransky turn things around with 0-12 run

Pleiss scored inside to start the quarter and Navarro’s floater cut the difference to 1. After Nikos Pappas sank free throws, Navarro tied the game at 23-23 with a three-pointer. Marcelinho Huertas banked in a second-chance opportunity to give Barcelona its first lead. Gani Lawal tied it with a slam, but Navarro was left open and punished the hosts with another three. Pappas answered with a jumper before throwing a pass to Lawal for an alley-oop as the Greens wrested the lead back, 29-28, midway through the quarter. Nearly two minutes passed without a point from either team until Doellman sank free throws. A.J. Slaughter buried a three-pointer, but Abrines – after missing a three-pointer – stole the rebound from Giankovits and scored a layup to make it 32-32. Tomic finally scored his first basket and made it a three-point play. Abrines added a tough layup and a triple, which were both assisted by Satoransky. The Barcelona point guard found Tomic for a slam to make it 12 unanswered points to end the half with the visitors up 32-42.

Third quarter: Hosts chip away at the deficit

Gist opened the second half with 2 free throws for the hosts. Doellman drained a three only to see Slaughter match him. Tomic scored thanks to a well-placed pass from Brad Olson. Diamantidis sank a pair of free throws as the difference remained in the 8-10 point range. Satoransky’s layup was matched by Batista. Diamantidis fed Batista for a reverse layup that made it 43-49 midway through the quarter. After a timeout, Panathinaikos attacked again as Diamantidis’s steal set up a Gist slam. The Greens’ playmaker added free throws to cap an 8-0 run that brought his team within 2. Marcelinho Huertas ran the pick-and-roll with Pleiss, who finished with a slam. Deshaun Thomas made it 47-53 with an offensive rebound, basket and foul. Pappas scored a tough layup to keep it close, but Pleiss answered with a jump hook. DeMarcus Nelson muscled his way to a three-point play with 20.3 seconds left in the quarter. Pleiss’s dunk in the closing seconds of the quarter made it 52-57.

Fourth quarter:

Gist assisted to Batista for a layup, but Marcelinho Huertas fed Pleiss for a monster slam and foul to make it 54-60. Batista drew Pleiss’s fourth foul and sank 2 free throws. Doellman hit a jumper and Panathinaikos coach Ivanovic was called for a technical foul. Navarro made the free throw for a 56-63 lead. Pleiss fouled out with seven minutes to go and Gist made the resulting foul shots. Doellman matched him at the other end. After Nelson assisted Fotsis, Doellman and Diamantidis swapped threes to make it 63-68 with less than five minutes to go. Abrines knocked down 2 free throws and Nelson spun for a tough basket. The teams continued to trade points as Doellman hit a long jumper and Nelson converted 2 free throws. Diamantidis came up with a huge rejection of Tomic. Navarro nailed a three, but Slaughter did the same. The arena erupted when Gist drilled a three with 1:34 remaining to make it 73-75. Doellman banked in a tough shot to make it a two-possession game. Fotsis split free throws with 57.5 seconds to go. After Doellman missed a tough jumper, Panathinaikos turned it over. Navarro iced the victory with a pair of free throws with 10.9 seconds on the clock. Diamantidis managed to bank in a lucky three, but Satoransky’s free throws ended the game.

Κέρδισε Μάλαγα και προβλήματα

Χάρη στο γκάζι που πάτησε στο 3ο δεκάλεπτο και τη βελτίωση του στη επίθεση, ο Ολυμπιακός κατάφερε να κερδίσει με 77-72 την πολύ σκληρή για να πεθάνει Μάλαγα, που ήρθε στο Σ.Ε.Φ. χωρίς να έχει τίποτα να χάσει. Κλειδί για τη νίκη η βελτίωσή του στα τρίποντα στο 2ο ημίχρονο (2/11 στο πρώτο, 5/11 στο δεύτερο) καθώς και η επιβλητική εμφάνιση του Βασίλη Σπανούλη που έκανε double double (18 πόντοι -10 ασίστ) που έκανε και ένα πολύ σημαντικό milestone περνώντας στην 3η θέση των παικτών με τις περισσότερες ασίστ στην Ευρωλίγκα (801), πίσω από Διαμαντίδη και Παπαλουκά.

Ο Ολυμπιακός ξεκίνησε (και τελείωσε ουσιαστικά το ημίχρονο) μουδιασμένος. Η Μάλαγα έκλεισε καλά τους διαδρόμους στη ρακέτα της, αναγκάζοντας τους ερυθρόλευκους να εκδηλώσουν πολλές επιθέσεις με τρίποντα και αρκετά από αυτά όχι με καλές προϋποθέσεις. Ο Ολυμπιακός όμως ήταν  πολύ άστοχος (έκλεισε το ημίχρονο με 2/11). Έτσι στα 5 πρώτα λεπτά εχει σκοράρει μολις 5 πόντους. Ευτυχώς παίζει καλές άμυνες και δεν αφήνει τη Μάλαγα να ξεφύγει. 

Ο Σφαιρόπουλος βάζει εσπευσμένα τον Πρίντεζη που ξέρει να σκοράρει και το κάνει άμεσα με 4 σερί πόντους. Τρώει όμως πολλά καλάθια από τη ρακέτα του. Χάνει μερικά αμυντικά ριμπάουντ και δίνει στη Μάλαγα το προβάδισμα. 

Πολύ καλό διάβασμα από τον Πλάθα του τρόπου ανάπτυξης του Ολυμπιακού. Τον έχει κλείσει η Μάλαγα καλά στην άμυνα με βοήθειες στα drive (Σπανούλη και μη) αφήνοντας του τα σουτ. 

Στην άμυνα ο Ολυμπιακός πάει στα σκριν σε δυναμικό heads out με Ντανστον - Χάντερ και οι Ισπανοί το διαβάζουν αυτό και μοιράζουν σωστά την μπάλα στο 5άρι τους που κόβει, νικώντας σχετικά εύκολα την άμυνα του Ολυμπιακού. 

Στο 2ο ημίχρονο ήρθε η πολυπόθητη αφύπνιση για τους ερυθρόλευκους. Μπήκαν δυνατά και ορεξάτοι και με μπροστάρη το Σπανούλη κατάφεραν και γύρισαν την εις βάρος τους διαφορά του πρώτου ημιχρόνου. 

Ο αρχηγός συνεχίζει να μοιράζει μπάλες και βγάζει ωραία πικ εν ρολ με Πρίντεζη (και στο 1ο μέρος), κάτι που έκανε ελαχιςτα με Ντανστον - Χάντερ. Βρίσκει ρυθμό και βάζει και τα σουτ, γυρίζοντας ωραία την μπάλα. 

Ο Πλάθα βλέποντας το κλίμα να αναστρέφεται γυρίζει σε ζώνη 2-1-2 η οποία βγαίνει υπό συνθήκες πίεσης και ως το κέντρο. Η αλλαγή αυτή δυσκολεύει τον Ολυμπιακό που δεν έχει λύσεις να τη σπάσει, παρά μόνο με μακρινά σουτ από Σλούκα και Λοτζέσκι. 

Δε βοηθούν τα 5άρια σήμερα στην επίθεση και χάνουν και τους αντιπάλους τους στην άμυνα. Ο Πρίντεζης το παλεύει μόνο με ότι δυνάμεις του έχουν απομείνει (λόγω της γαστρεντερίτιδας που πέρασε) τελειώνοντας το ματς με 13 πόντους. Ντάνστον και Χάντερ (έπαιζε με γαστρεντερίτιδα και αυτός) έχουν μόλις 6 και 3 αντίστοιχα. Θετικός ο Τσαϊρέλης στα λίγα λεπτά που αγωνίστηκε. 

Απο το 35' και μετά (λόγω κόπωσης;) οι ερυθρόλευκοι πάνε σε αλλαγές στα σκριν. Οι Ισπανοί και πάλι εκμεταλλεύονται τα μις ματς και σκοτώνουν μέσα από τη ρακέτα τον Ολυμπιακό. Ο Σπανούλης πλέον αναλαμβάνει δράση, παίρνει το παιχνίδι στα χέρια του και πηγαίνει σε πολύ καλά drives, σκοράροντας και κερδίζοντας και φάουλ. Το σημαντικό για τον αρχηγό (που ήταν και mvp) είναι η ενέργεια που έβγαλε και στην άμυνα, δείχνοντας στους νεότερους και το πως πρέπει να παίξουν. 

Σκληραίνει την άμυνά του στο τέλος και αναγκάζει σε λάθη τη Μάλαγα, κερδίζοντας τελικά και το παιχνίδι. Το 77-72 είναι το τελικό σκορ και η νίκη είναι αυτό που μετράει, καθώς σε συνδυασμό με την ήττα της ΤΣΣΚΑ από τη Φενέρμπαχτσε στη Ρωσία, ο Ολυμπιακός είναι πλέον πρώτος μόνος με 7-1 με Ρώσους και Τούρκους να ισοβαθμούν στη 2η θέση με 6-2.  

Τίποτα φυσικά δεν έχει τελειώσει. Η συνέχεια είναι ζόρικη. Ο Ολυμπιακός δεν έπαιξε πολύ καλά και αυτό πρέπει να ανησυχήσει το προπονητικό team των ερυθρολεύκων. Είδαμε κακή αμυντική λειτουργία κυρίως στη ρακέτα του. Η συνέχεια αναμένεται δύσκολη αλλά και συναρπαστική!

Olympiacos marks anniversary with comeback win for first place

To mark its 500th game in European competitions dating to 1960, Olympiacos Piraeus took over sole ownership of first place in Top 16 Group F with a tense 77-72 victory over visiting Unicaja Malaga on Friday. Olympiacos improved to 7-1 with its 13th consecutive Euroleague home win. Unicaja remained in last place at 1-7 despite leading for the entire first half and being within 61-60 with under 7 minutes left. That's when Olympiacos went on a 10-3 run behind 7 points and an assist from Vassilis Spanoulis to put the game away. He finished with 18 points and 10 assist for the winners, who also saw Georgios Printezis score 13 and Matt Lojeski 12. Unicaja got 13 points form Jayson Granger, their only double-digit scorer despite having more two-pointers (21 to 18) and as many threes (7 to 7) as Olympiacos. But the Reds got more free-throw opportunities, making 20 of 24 at the line compared to Unicaja's 9 for 11, to make the difference.

First quarter: Rebounding sends Unicaja in front

Kostas Vasileiadis drilled a triple against his old club to open the scoring, while Spanoulis fed Bryant Dunston to get Olympiacos on the scoreboard. Granger stole and finished a fastbreak to raise Unicaja's lead to 2-5. Caleb Green put back an offensive rebound to make it 2-7 before Vangelis Mantzaris broke an 0-for-6 start from the three-point line by Olympiacos with his shot from the wing. Green answered with a pair of inside baskets at the same time that Printezis came on with a dunk and his patented one-hand baseline shot for Olympiacos. A fastbreak finish by Ryan Toolson kept Unicaja in front 9-13 before Spanoulis got his first points at the foul line. Will Thomas answered with a baseline turnaround and put back an offensive rebound to close a great first quarter for the visitors with an 11-17 lead in their favor.

Second quarter: Visitors stay a step ahead

Vladimir Golubovic dunked a feed from Thomas as the lead reached 12-19 before Lojeski joined the Olympiacos scorers. Kostas Sloukas soon added his name with a three-point play to cut the difference to 17-20, but Mindaugas Kuzminskas answered with a triple from the corner for Unicaja. Free throws by Printezis and Spanoulis cut the difference to 20-23. Printezis and Toolson traded equally impressive layups, the former going left, the latter high over would-be shot blockers. Tremmel Darden's free throws drew Olympiacos within 24-25, but Granger got the bounce on a three-pointer and Green downed his own free throws lifting the lead to 24-31. Spanoulis found Mantzaris for his second three-pointer, but Fran Vazquez put back an offensive rebound in response for Unicaja. On the last opportunity of the first half, Spanoulis made his fifth assist cross court to newcomer Michalis Tsairelis, who twisted for a layup and his first Euroleague basket ever to make it 29-33 after 20 minutes.

Third quarter: Lojeski leads takeover by Reds

Lojeski closed the gap further with a step-back jumper after the break then gave Olympiacos its first lead of the game, 34-33, with an open triple from the corner. Vasileiadis answered with the same shot, however, and when Spanoulis fed Dunston for dunk, the score was tied 36-36. Spanoulis canned an acrobatic layup, his first points away from the foul line, and converted the added free throw to make it 39-28. Granger got a layup back for the guests but Spanoulis fed Printezis for another and-one play as the Reds went up 42-38. Granger posted up for his next basket while Spanoulis danced for his own and Printezis found Lojeski for another three-pointer at 47-40. After a timeout, Stefan Markovic fed German Gabriel for a layup and three-point play to calm the visitors. Oliver Lafayette struck for Olympiacos with a triple, but Granger answered from even deeper to keep Unicaja within 50-46. Gabriel became a passer next, feeding Thomas for a baseline dunk that forced an Olympiacos timeout. Sloukas came on and fired a triple over Unicaja's zone to revive the hosts. Toolson got 2 of those points back at the foul line, then Granger found Gabriel for an open layup before Othello Hunter tipped in his own miss before the third-quarter buzzer to keep the hosts up 55-52.

Fourth quarter: Spanoulis to the rescue

Printezis hit a lefty one-hander from the baseline and Markovic a layup to open the fourth quarter. After a Printezis free throw, Kuzminskas fed Markovic for a layup before the latter passed over the entire Olympiacos defense for a game-tying dunk by Vazquez at 58-58. Sloukas calmed the crowd with a quick-strike three-pointer, but Vazquez downed a jumper in response at 61-60. Spanoulis found Dunston alone for an easy dunk and then got to the free throw line to make 2 of 2 shots for a 65-60 lead with 4:30 to play. Jon Stefansson drilled a three-pointer that seemed to give Unicaja life - until Spanoulis erased it with a finger-roll layup that he converted into a three-point play at 69-63. His next layup, after splitting the entire Unicaja defense, was even better. Thomas dunked a miss and Toolson banged in free throws for Unicaja, but in between Spanoulis assisted Lojeski and then Lafayette was perfect on the line as Olympiacos pulled away in the final minute to sole possession of first place in Group F.

Στοίχισαν τα αμυντικά ριμπάουντ

Ήττα στην πρεμιέρα του 2ου γύρου υπέστη ο Παναθηναϊκός στο Ισραήλ με 73-70, καθώς δεν μπόρεσε να κάμψει την αντίσταση της Μακάμπι. Σε όλο το ματς ήταν κοντά στο σκορ και μέσα στο παιχνίδι, βασιζόμενος κυρίως στα τρίποντα (εκτέλεσε 33 τρίποντα και 31 δίποντα), προσπαθώντας να κάνει το cone back το οποίο δεν ήρθε ποτέ. Φάση κλειδί στο 69-66 το άστοχο καλάθι του Γιάνκοβιτς που ενώ ανέλαβε ωραία την πρωτοβουλία στην επίθεση να παίξει με πλάτη τον κοντύτερο αντίπαλό του, τον πέρασε με ωραίο ρολάρισμα αλλά, αστόχησε σε ένα φαινομενικά εύκολο καλάθι. Στη συνέχεια η Μακάμπι σκόραρε δίποντο, ο Σλότερ μετά αστόχησε από σε σουτ για δύο και τα λίγα δευτερόλεπτα που έμεναν δεν έφταναν στους πράσινους για να πάρουν τη νίκη.

Η αλήθεια αν θες να έχεις βλέψεις για 1η-2η θέση και πλεονέκτημα έδρας, πρέπει να χτυπάς τέτοια ματς-ντέρμπι. Ο Παναθηναϊκός είχε το 5-2 (αισίως 5-3) αλλά με 4 ματς να έχει παίξει στην έδρα του και περιμένοντας Ρεάλ και Μπαρτσελόνα στο ΟΑΚΑ στον 2ο γύρο. Προσωπική διαίσθηση πως θα καταλήξει προς 3η-4η θέση. Το καλό είναι ότι ηττήθηκε με 3 πόντους απόψε, διαφορά μικρότερη από όσο κέρδισε τη Μακάμπι στο ΟΑΚΑ, οπότε σε περίπτωση ισοβαθμίας μεταξύ τους έχει το πλεονέκτημα.

Όσον αφορά την εξέλιξη του ματς, αρχικά ο Παναθηναϊκός προσπάθησε όπως συνηθίζει να περάσει την μπάλα από τη ρακέτα με Μπατίστα και Γκιστ. Ο Γκιστ απόψε ήταν πολύ καλός με μεγάλη συνεισφορά σε άμυνα και επίθεση, ταίριαζε στα ελαφριά 5άρια της Μακάμπι (μιας και ο Σόφο δεν αγωνίστηκε) για αυτό και ο Ιβάνοβιτς πήγε σε κοντά σχήματα, με Φώτση - Γκιστ να αγωνίζονται περισσότερο σε σχέση με Μπατίστα, Μαυροκεφαλίδη και Λαβάλ. Ο τελευταίος έκανε το ντεμπούτο του απόψε με τους πράσινους, αλλά δείχνει ότι του λείπουν παιχνίδια.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός προσπαθεί να πάει σε κοντρόλ επιθέσεις, διαβάζει ωραία την άμυνα της Μακάμπι και βγάζει ωραία καλάθια. Ελέγχει αρχικά το ρυθμό. Είναι πολύ άστοχος από τα 6,75 μ. (ξεκίνησε με 1/10). Μετά το 5ο-6ο λεπτό αρχίζει και χάνει τη συγκέντρωσή του στην άμυνα και από κακές επιλογές στην επίθεση τρώει και πολλούς αιφνιδιασμούς. Πολύ αργές επιστροφές για τους πράσινους. Το ξέσπασμα αυτό δίνει ένα +5 στη Μακάμπι για το δεκάλεπτο. (22-17)

Η ρακέτα του Παναθηναϊκού με τα κοντά σχήματα να μην μπορούν να ανταπεξέλθουν καλά στην άμυνα, θυμίζει σουρωτήρι. Όποιος μπαίνει μέσα στο ζωγραφιστό σκοράρει. Η εικόνα αυτή συνεχίστηκε μέχρι τέλους. Ευτυχώς βελτίωσε τα ποσοστά του στα τρίποντα και δεν ξέφυγε πολύ μπροστά η Μακάμπι. Σκορ ημιχρόνου 38-30.

Με το Γιάνκοβιτς να βομβαρδίζει με 3/3 σερί τρίποντα καταφέρνει να μαζέψει τη διαφορά, προσδίδοντας άγχος στη Μακάμπι που δεν μπόρεσε να ξεφύγει και να παίξει πιο ελεύθερα. Αρνητικός ο Σλότερ απόψε, "δεν έβαζε τίποτα" απέξω και δεν μπόρεσε να καλύψει και οργανωτικά το κενό του Νέλσον. Κάπως βοήθησε ο Μποχωρίδης στο ρόλο αυτό για 11' που αγωνίστηκε. 

Πολύ καλός επιθετικά και ο Παππάς που ήταν αρκετά καλός επιθετικά με ωραίες διεισδύσεις, ενώ έβαλε και 2/5 τρίποντα. Αυτός μαζί με Γιάνκοβιτς και Γκιστ αποτέλεσαν τις κύριες επιθετικές αιχμές της ομάδας. Μαζεύει τη διαφορά στους -2 (54-52) νε το 4ο δεκάλπετο να προμηνύεται συναρπαστικό! 

Το μεγάλο πλήγμα για τον Παναθηναϊκό είναι τα αμυντικά ριμπάουντ. Η Μακάμπι ήταν σαφώς ανώτερη σε αυτόν τομέα (44 έναντι 33) και έτσι κέρδισε επιπλέον επιθέσεις. Αυτό ήταν και το κλειδί για τη νίκη των Ισραηλινών. Όσο ο Ιβάνοβιτς είχε μέσα Μπατίστα, Λαβάλ και Μαυροκεφαλίδη κέρδιζε τα αμυντικά (είχαν μαζί 13 ρ.). Επέλεξε όπως προαναφέραμε να πάει σε κοντύτερο σχήμα με Φώτση - Γκιστ (είχαν μαζί 5 ρ.) χάνοντας πολλά αμυντικά ριμπάουντ. 

Τελικά πάντα κυνηγώντας το σκορ, δεν κατάφερε να το γυρίσει και ηττήθηκε με 73-70.

Maccabi Electra outlasts Panathinaikos

Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv held on for a 73-70 victory over rival Panathinaikos Athens at Menora Mivtachim Arena. The result broke a tie between the teams for second place in Group E; Maccabi improved to 6-2, while Panathinaikos fell to 5-3. The Greens, who beat Maccabi by 7 in Athens in the Top 16 opener, protected that difference to earn a tiebreak advantage should the teams be tied at the end of the Top 16. The game was closely contested throughout; Panathinaikos drew within 1 twice in the fourth quarter, but Maccabi held on and sealed the win with late free throws from Jeremy Pargo and Joe Alexander. Pargo led the champs with 16 points, while Alex Tyus, Yogev Ohayon and Alexander each scored 10. Nate Linhart added 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Vlantimir Giankovits scored 16 for Panathinaikos, Nikos Pappas had 15 and James Gist 12. Former Maccabi player and two-time Euroleague champ David Blu was honored during the game and inducted in the Maccabi Tel Aviv Hall of Fame.

First quarter: Cohen scores 6 points to lift Maccabi

Pargo got to the line for the first point of the game. Giankovits’s second-chance basket gave the Greens their first lead. Pargo hit a jumper over Gist as the 24-second clock sounded. A.J. Slaughter sank a jumper at the other end. Dimitris Diamantidis rejected Ohayon on a drive, but Devin Smith soon scored from behind the arc. Diamantidis assisted Esteban Batista on a layup to tie the game at 6-6. Gist threw down a two-handed jam, but Tyus drove and dunked on the next play. Nate Linhart took advantage of a Panathinaikos turnover and drove for a slam. Brian Randle’s block of Loukas Mavrokefalides led to a Maccabi fast break that MarQuez Haynes finished with a slam. Alexander banked in a shot to cap an 8-0 run. Diamantidis revived Panathinaikos with a three and Pappas free throws cut the cap to 14-13. Gist completed a 0-8 Panathinaikos run with a three-point play, which also sent Randle to the bench with 2 fouls. Alexander tied the game at 16-16. After Gist split free throws, Jake Cohen played the pick-and-roll with Haynes and converted a three-point play. Cohen drilled a three to end the quarter at 22-17.

Second quarter: Tyus, Pargo helps hosts to double-digit lead

Ohayon drove for a tough layup and then found Tyus for an alley-oop layup to finish a 10-0 run. Antonis Fotsis ended a four-minute scoring drought for Panathinaikos with a fast break layup. Randle dunked in transition to keep the champs in control. Pappas pulled up for a baseline jumper, but Randle turned a steal into an easy score for Cohen and a 30-21 lead. Pappas connected twice from downtown – Tyus sank free throws in between – to bring the Greens within 5. Pargo found Tyus for an alley-oop slam and Randle got a fortunate roll on a basket plus foul. Pargo attacked the rim to give Maccabi a double-digit lead. Diamantidis blocked Pargo and Giankovits scored from behind the arc to bring the visitors within 38-30 at the break.

Third quarter: Greens’ three-point shooting keeps it close

Giankovits and Pargo traded threes in the first two minutes of the second half. Giankovits’s fourth three of the game drew the Greens within 5 points. Diamantidis’s jumper made it 41-38. Tyus scored from the line, but Diamantidis bettered him with a three to make it 43-41 midway through the quarter. Linhart and Gist traded baskets. Panathinaikos missed shots to take the lead and Pargo converted a three-point play at the other end. Slaughter beat the shot clock with a tough three and Alexander finished with a slam at the other end. Pargo put on a show with a basket on Diamantidis. Pappas put together a three-point play only to see Ohayon answer with a basket-plus-foul. Pappas fought hard for an offensive rebound and turned it into a three that ended the quarter at 54-52.

Fourth quarter:

Randle’s offensive rebound led to an Ohayon triple, but Fotsis answered in kind. Smith grabbed an offensive rebound and found Alexander for a slam. Eleftherios Bochoridis drilled a three to make it 59-58. Ohayon waited a minute before responding with a three. Smith then put back Haynes’s miss on the break to give the hosts a 6-point cushion with five minutes remaining. After a timeout Giankovits muscled his way to a basket and Fotsis’s triple made it 64-63. Smith swooped in for a layup to keep the champs in front. Randle scored inside, but Gist matched him. Pargo came up with a steal and split free throws with 2:07 remaining to put Maccabi ahead 69-65. Diamantidis split free throws to make it a one-possession game. Alexander shined with key rebounds at both ends. He sank free throws with 1:02 left for a 5-point lead. Gist free throws made it 71-68 with 20.2 seconds left. Pargo’s free throws with 14.9 seconds left iced the game.
