Καταιγιστικός!

Επιβλητική και μεγάλης σημασίας νίκη έκανε ο Παναθηναϊκός στο ΟΑΚΑ κερδίζοντας τη Γαλατασαράι με 86-77. Στο μεγαλύτερο διάστημα οι πράσινοι ήταν καταιγιστικοί με πολύ καλό μπάσκετ επιθετικά διατηρώντας ένα μεγάλο προβάδισμα (που έφτασε μέχρι και 25 πόντους) για αρκετή ώρα. Η κόπωση λόγω των απουσιών και το αναγκαστικά μικρό rotation του Ιβάνοβοτς, έδωσε την ευκαιρία στη Γαλατά, που σε καμία περίπτωση δεν παράτησε το παιχνίδι, να μειώσει (μέχρι και τους 6 πόντους) στο τέλος του παιχνιδιού. 

Στα του αγώνα... Καταιγιστικός ο Παναθηναϊκός, μπήκε φουριόζος και με πολύ υψηλά ποσοστά ευστοχίας στα τρίποντα (στο ΟΑΚΑ το καλάθι το βλέπει πάντα σαν βαρέλι) πήρε σημαντικό προβάδισμα 15 πόντων στο ημίχρονο (42-27). Πολύ κακή αμυντικά η Γαλατά, δεν ασχολείται ιδιαίτερα με το αμυντικό κομμάτι, βασιζόμενη στις επιθετικές αρετές των παικτών της. Γύρισε στο 2ο δεκαλεπτο και σε ζώνη, αλλά ο Παναθηναϊκός ήταν πολύ εύστοχος, οπότε και αναγκάστηκε να ξαναγυρίσει σε man to man. Ο Πανθηναϊκός γύρισε σωστά την μπάλα και βρήκε πολλά ελεύθερα σουτ από την κακή αμυντική λειτουργία της Γαλατά.

Το παιχνίδι στο 2ο δεκαλεπτο πήρε διαστάσεις run & gun με το Νέλσον να τρέχει πολύ τους πράσινους. Σκόραρε δε και ωραία προσωπικά καλάθια και παίζει πολύ καλά το πικ εν ρολ με τους ψηλούς, αλλά και μοίρασε πολλές μπάλες (8 ασίστ). Το ματς προσφέρεται για σεμινάριο πικ εν ρολ (κυρίως επιθετικά) από τους πράσινους αφού η Γαλατά είχε πολύ κακή αντιμετώπιση. 

Μοναδικός Γιάνις Μπλουμς με 3/4 τρίποντα στο 1ο ημίχρονο (τελείωσε με 4/7 και ρεκόρ καριέρας 16 πόντων στην Ευρωλίγκα) . Φοβερή ενέργεια στην άμυνα από Γκιστ με δυο εκρηκτικά μπλοκ. Σκορ ημιχρόνου 42-27.

Στο 2ο ημίχρονο οι Τούρκοι μπήκαν αποφασισμένοι να μην το παρατήσουν και πίεσαν full court, με επιτυχία σε πολλές περιπτώσεις. Και φυσικά κατάφεραν να κάνουν και την ανατροπή καλύπτοντας ένα handicap 19 πόντων. 

Παραδόξως ο Ιβάνοβιτς στο 4ο επέλεξε να πάει σε σχήμα με Γκιστ στο 3, Φώτση στο 4 και Μπατίστα στο 5, δηλαδή ταυτόχρονα και με τους 3 ψηλούς του (ίσως λόγω έλλειψης Γκαρντ;) αλλά εμφανώς το σχήμα αυτό δεν του βγήκε. Εκεί η Γαλατά μείωσε τη διαφορά από τους 25 σε μονοψήφιο (ως και τους 6).  Εμφανής η κούραση των πράσινων από την έλλειψη βάθους στο ρόστερ λόγω των απουσιών Παππά, Σλότερ, Μαυροκεφαλίδη στο Β' μέρος. Αυτό είχε ως αποτέλεσμα τη χαλάρωση στην άμυνα, κάτι που φάνηκε από την ευκολία που έσπαγε την άμυνά του η Γαλατά με απλά drive για λέι απ ή και split για τρίποντο, αλλά και από το επιμέρους σκορ, αφού είχαν 27 πόντους στο 1ο ημίχρονο και 50 στο 2ο.

Όμως ο Παναθηναϊκός εξαργύρωσε τα τρία πρώτα καλά του δεκάλεπτα και πήρε τη νίκη που έχει και τη μεγαλύτερη σημασία για τη συνεχεία του Top-16, αφού και οι δυο ομάδες ήταν στο 2-2 και με τη νίκη αυτή οι πράσινοι έκαναν το 3-2 "κατακτώντας" την 4η θέση του ομίλου (σε ισοβαθμία με την Μπαρτσελόνα). Κρισιμότατο το επόμενο ματς με την Άλμπα εκτός, αφού αν θες να λες ότι κοιτάς τα playoffs, πρέπει να πάρεις και κάποιο εκτός έδρας ματς. Και πόσο μάλλον όταν έχεις χάσει σε Μαδρίτη και Βαρκελώνη και τους περιμένεις στο Β' γύρο στην έδρα σου. 

Blums leads Panathinaikos attack in big win over Galatasaray

Six different Greens scored in double figures as Panathinaikos Athens ran past Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul 86-77 on Friday night at OlympicSports Center Athens. The Greek champs improved to 3-2 for a share of third place in Group E, while Galatasaray dropped to 2-3. The game was not as close as the final score would make it appear. Janis Blums hit 3 three-pointers and James Gist rejected a pair of shots in an 11-0 second-quarter run that gave the hosts a 30-13 advantage. It was 42-27 at halftime and Esteban Batista extended the difference into the 20s early in the second half. Panathinaikos led by as many as 25 and was cruising before a late Galatasaray rally drew the visitors as close as 6 in the final minute. Blums finished with 16 points to lead the winners. Dimitris Diamantidis tallied 14 points on 40of-6 three-point shooting plus and 6 assists, Antonis Fotsis posted 12 points and 11 rebounds, Vlantimir Giankovits also scored 12, Esteban Batista 11 and De Marcus Nelson amassed 10 points and 8 assists. Panathinaikos made 14 of 29 three-pointers. Vladimir Micov paced Galatasaray with 16 points, Kerem Gonlum scored 14 and Justin Carter 12.

First quarter: Vets Diamantidis, Fotsis propel Panathinaikos

Diamantidis beat the shot clock for a three-pointer and the game’s first points. Then Giankovits added a triple before Micov got Galatasaray on the scoreboard with a shot from downtown. Fotsis tipped in his own miss to make it 8-3. Sinan Guler drove for a layup, but Fotsis drilled another Panathinaikos three. Diamantidis whipped a great pass to Batista for a layup and a 13-5 lead. Micov responded with a reverse layup, but Eleftherios Bochoridis kept the Greens comfortable ahead. Patric Young and Batista traded scores on the offensive glass. Carlos Arroyo’s long jumper made it 17-11. Nelson drove to create space and dished Batista for a two-handed slam and a 19-11 Panathinaikos advantage after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Blums takes charge as Greens take over

Gonlum backed down Fotsis for his first points, but Blums hit back with Panathinaikos’s fourth triple. Gist rejected Carter and a second Blums three made it 25-13. Nelson drove into the heart of the Galatasaray defense for a layup and Blums made a third three to cap an 11-0 run for a 17-point advantage. Zoran Erceg connected on a long jumper and Martynas Pocius added a three to give Galatasaray hope at 30-18 midway through the quarter. Gist registered another impressive block before Nelson scored in the paint. Arroyo fed Young for an alley-oop slam plus foul. Blums hit another long shot, but this time with a foot on the three-point arc. Erceg picked up points at the charity stripe before Diamantidis and Pocius traded threes. Arroyo turned on the jets for a layup in transition before Blums went into the paint for what become a basket on Carter’s goaltending. Gist drilled a three to leave the hosts ahead 42-27 at the break.

Third quarter: Batista muscles the lead into the 20s

Fotsis started the second half with a three-pointer. Pocius drove for a Galatasaray layup. Batista split free throws and then made a layup as the lead reached 19. Giankovits ran the pick-and-roll with Batista, who finished with a slam and a 50-29 lead. Giankovits free throws and a Nelson triple saw the lead continue to grow despite a Micov layup. Giankovits added 2 more from the line to put the hosts up 25. Carter tried to trigger a Galatasaray run with a three-pointer and soon after a pair of trips to the line to make it 57-38. Gist and Guler traded buckets. Nelson fed Fotsis for an alley-oop slam. Gist recorded his fourth block of the game as the hosts refused to let Galatasaray get any traction. Micov made a pair of free throws at one end and Giankovits did so at the other. Ender Arslan assisted Gonlum to make it 65-46.

Fourth quarter: 0-9 Galatasaray spurt comes too late

Giankovits nailed a three as the Greens looked to be in total control. Gonlum and Carter each scored for the visitors. Diamantidis made a third three and Gonlum scored inside as the Greens’ lead settled safely around 20. Giankovits produced another highlight with a behind-the-back assist to Fotsis for a slam. Arslan hit a three for his first points. Micov made it 74-57 midway through the quarter. Diamantidis connected on another three to restore the 20-point margin. Gonlum reached double digits in points for Galatasaray. Free throws by Micov, an Arslan three and a slam by Young drew the visitors within 79-68. Gonlum completed a 0-9 Galatasaray charge in the next-to-last minute. Diamantidis stopped the drought with a mid-range jumper. Arslan free throws and a Micov triple made the final margin much more palatable for the visitors.

Και προβλέψιμος και κακός...

Τη χειρότερη εμφάνισή του φέτος στην Ευρωλίγκα έκανε ο Ολυμπιακός καθώς ηττήθηκε από την Εφές με 84-70 στην Κωνσταντινούπολη (η 1η του ήττα στο Top-16). Η κακή αυτή βραδιά ταυτίστηκε και με τη χειρότερη εμφάνιση φέτος του Σπανούλη που έμεινε στους 2 π. με 0% FG. Οι "Τούρκοι" του Ίβκοβιτς ήταν εξαιρετικά διαβασμένοι στον τρόπο ανάπτυξης του Ολυμπιακού και έκλεισαν κάθε κίνηση που είχε σχεδιάσει ο Σφαιρόπουλος. Σαφής επικράτηση του Σέρβου έναντι του Έλληνα. Σημαντικό ματς για τον Ολυμπιακό το επόμενο με την ΤΣΣΚΑ στο ΣΕΦ την προσεχή Πέμπτη που εκεί θα κριθεί ενδεχομένως και 1η θέση του ομίλου.

Το θέμα όμως δεν ήταν ατομικό απόψε για τον Ολυμπιακό. Δεν έφταιγε (μόνο) η κακή απόδοση του Σπανούλη. Οι ερυθρόλευκοι ήταν εν γένει σε κακή βραδιά και δύσκολα έβρισκες διακριθέντα. Ότι αξιόλογο είχε να επιδείξει ο Ολυμπιακός το έκανε στο 1ο ημίχρονο που ήταν κοντά στο σκορ και μέσα στο παιχνίδι, έχοντας καλή κυκλοφορία στην επίθεση. Είχε και τα σουτ με το μέρος του αφού και σε κακές επιθέσεις στη λήξη του χρόνου, οι Μάντζαρης και Λαφαγιέτ είχαν τη λύση από 6,75. Μέχρι εκεί όμως... Σκορ ημιχρόνου 37-40.

Στο 3ο δεκάλεπτο οι ερυθρόλευκοι σκόραραν με το σταγονόμετρο! Πέρα από ένα-δύο FG, οι υπόλοιποι πόντοι ήταν από βολές. Η κούραση και κυρίως η έλλειψη καθαρού μυαλού άρχισαν να κάνουν την εμφάνισή τους καθώς η πίεση των Τούρκων οδήγησε τους ερυθρόλευκους και σε πολλά αβίαστα λάθη. Χωρίς άλλοθι, παίζουν σίγουρα ρόλο και οι τραυματισμοί. Ο Πρίντεζης δεν έχει βρει τη φόρμα του, κάνοντας 2ο σερί πολύ κακό ματς. Ο Πέτγουεϊ φαίνεται να συνεχίζει να έχει ενοχλήσεις στη μέση αφού δε χρησιμοποιείται όσο και όπως θα μπορούσε. Ο Ντάνστον δεν έχει δείξει το περσινό του πρόσωπο και ειδικά σήμερα προερχόταν και από δηλητηρίαση με μία προπόνηση. Ακόμα και Σλούκας στα 2 τελευταία ματς δεν έχει μπόρεσε να βοηθήσει όσο στα προηγούμενα παιχνίδια. Ο Λοτζέσκι και αυτός είναι ακόμα σε ρηχά νερά. Εν γένει ο Ολυμπιακός φαίνεται να μπήκε σε φάση ντεφορμαρίσματος. Ας ελπίσουμε ότι θα είναι σύντομης διάρκειας και δε θα κρίνει πολλά σε αυτή τη στιγμή. Και το ματς με τη Λαμποράλ ουσιαστικά το γύρισε με τα σουτ του Σπανούλη, αφού και πάλι συνολικά ήταν μέτριος. Λείπει εμφανώς και ο Αγραβάνης που είχε το κορμί να παίξει και άμυνες στα αντίπαλα ποσταρίσματα.

Το θετικό είναι ότι και στο 1ο ημίχρονο που έπαιξε καλά, έδειξε η ομάδα ότι μπορεί και χωρίς Σπανούλη. Ο αρχηγός ήταν ουσιαστικά εκτός σκοραρίσματος και δημιουργίας. Και ειδικά το 2ο στοιχείο στοίχισε περισσότερο στον Ολυμπιακό. 

Ο Σφαιρόπουλος έχασε κατά κράτος το ματς των πάγκων από τον Ίβκοβιτς. Βλέποντας ότι και οι παίκτες του δεν τον βοηθάνε και από τη στιγμή που άνοιξε και το σκορ σε διψήφιες διαφορές, έπρεπε να δοκιμάσει κάτι διαφορετικό, πιο απρόβλεπτο. Να περάσει έστω 3-5 λεπτά τον Κατσίβελη μήπως αλλάξει τις ισορροπίες, ή ακόμα να βάλει και Καββαδα με Χάντερ ή Ντάνστον, αφού ο Πρίντεζης έκανε κακό ματς. Αμυντικά δε, θα μπορούσε να αξιοποιηθεί ο Καββαδάς (ως δίδυμο με Χάντερ ή Ντάνστον) καθώς "βαρεθήκαμε" να βλέπουμε μις ματς ψηλών της Εφές με τους κοντούς του Ολυμπιακού. Όταν στο τέλος κουράστηκαν και πήγαιναν σε αλλαγές στα σκριν, έμενε ο Χάντερ στο PG της Εφες και ο Κρστιτς με το Σλούκα! Επίσης το πολύ επιθετικό heads-out του Χάντερ στα πικ εν ρολ, δημιουργούσε μεγάλες ανισορροπίες στην άμυνα που τις διάβαζαν συνεχώς οι Τούρκοι και τον πλήγωναν. Άμα δε σου βγαίνει αμυντικά, πρέπει κάπως να αντιδράσεις, έστω γύρισέ το σε ζώνη! Αν και δεν είναι στο στυλ παιχνιδιού σου, εν μέρει τουλάχιστον θα τους κομπλάρεις για 3-4 φάσεις και μέχρι να καταλάβουν τι γίνεται, μπορεί και να το γυρίσεις με 2-3 σουτ στην επίθεση. Οι Τούρκοι είχαν βρει ρυθμό μετά το 28' και διεύρυναν εύκολα τη διαφορά.

Efes hands Olympiacos its first Top 16 loss

Anadolu Efes Istanbul used an outstanding defensive performance in the second half to beat Olympiacos Piraeus 84-70 and hand the Greek team its first loss in the Top 16. Efes allowed only 12 points in the third quarter, while Dontaye Draper led the way on offense with 14 points, hitting 4-of-4 three-pointers and helping to improve Anadolu’s record to 3-2 in Group F. Nenad Krstic added 13 points, Stephane Lasme chipped in 12 and Milko Bjelica had 10 points in the win. Olympiacos shot just 39% for the game in dropping to 4-1 in the group. Othello Hunter collected 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead Olympiacos in scoring, while Oliver Lafayette and Vangelis Mantzaris both nailed 3 three-pointers in scoring 11 points. Vassilis Spanoulis was held to just 2 points in the game.

First quarter: Olympiacos take early lead with 2-12 run

Efes coach Dusan Ivkovic swapped one player in his first five with Lasme in for Krstic alongside Draper, Matt Janning, Stratos Perperoglou and Dario Saric. Giannis Sfairopoulous made one change to his starting lineup as well with Georgios Printezis making his first start of the season in place of Brent Petway alongside Spanoulis, Mantzaris, Tremmell Darden and Bryant Dunston. Draper started the scoring with a driving layup while Darden’s jumper evened the game early on and Bryant putback dunk after a Spanoulis missed layup gave Olympiacos its first lead 2-4. Janning and Perperoglou both nailed three-balls for an 8-4 Anadolu Efes lead. Mantzaris answered with a jumper and three-ball from the right side to put the guests ahead and Darden’s reverse dunk after a steal completed the 0-7 spurt for an 8-11 score line. Perperoglou stopped the run with a spin move before Hunter fought hard on the offensive glass to keep the ball alive for a Mantzaris three-pointer. Hunter followed with an inside basket for a 10-16 advantage. Lasme converted a three-point play to stop the Olympiacos surge and an offensive rebound putback by Saric and two Krstic free throws had Anadolu Efes within 17-18 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Six lead changes and three ties in back-and-forth matchup

Kostas Sloukas got Olympiacos on the board to start the second quarter with a driving layup for a 17-20 lead. After two Krstic free throws, Bjelica converted a three-point play to push Efes back ahead. Lafayette answered with a three-pointer but Bjelica punched right back with a trey of his own and Krstic threw down a dunk for a 27-24 Anadolu Efes lead – and an Olympiacos time out. Matt Lojeski came out of the talk with a three-pointer for the guests, who then got a long jumper from Sloukas and a dunk by Hunter to go back ahead 29-30. Cedi Osman gave Efes the lead back as the teenager went coast to coast after a rebound for a layup to make it 31-30. Lasme’s score had the hosts up 33-31 before a three-point play by Hunter and a three-ball for Mantzaris to push Olympiacos ahead 33-37. Draper would tie the game at 37-37 but Lafayette nailed a trey at the buzzer for a 37-40 Olympiacos advantage at intermission. Lafayette and Mantazis combined to hit five of five three-pointers in the first half.

Third quarter: Efes allow just 8 points in nine and a half minutes

Thomas Heurtel scored his first points of the game with a jumper and Lasme’s free throw knotted the game at 40-40. Olympiacos needed until the 7:22-mark in the quarter for its first points with a three-pointer from the left corner by Darden. Lasme knocked down a baseline jumper and Efes finally pulled back ahead 45-43 on Perperoglou’s three-point play. While only allowing Olympiacos to shoot free throws, Heurtel hit a tough layup high off the glass and Krstic drained a long jumper for a 49-46 lead. After Sloukas made free throws, Dogus Balbay gave the hosts a big spark off the bench with a strong driving layup and then a jumper for a 53-48 lead. Bjelica added 2 more foul shots to push the advantage out to 55-48. Dunston fought back with two free throws and then a dunk at the buzzer to get Olympiacos to within 57-52.

Fourth quarter: Efes uses long ball to pull away

Janning got Efes started in the fourth quarter and Draper added a layup and then a three-ball on the break from the left wing to extend the lead to 64-52. Printezis finally scored for Olympiacos with two free throws at the 7:51 minute mark but Draper punched right back with a three-pointer for a 67-54 advantage at the seven minute mark. Huertel and Janning followed with back-to-back three-balls to push the lead out to 73-55. Lafayette’s three-ball trimmed the gap to 79-64 inside three minutes and Olympiacos would not get closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

ΣΠΑ-ΝΟΥ-ΛΑ-ΡΟΣ !!!

Dr Jekyll και mr Hyde θύμισε απόψε ο Ολυμπιακός στο Σ.Ε.Φ. καθώς έδειξε δύο αντίθετα πρόσωπα, ένα σε κάθε ημίχρονο. Ευτυχώς κράτησε το καλό του πρόσωπο για το τέλος και επιβλήθηκε της Λαμποράλ με 76-64 και έκανε το 4-0 στο Top-16. Αυτός και οι ΤΣΣΚΑ - Ρεάλ έχουν για την ώρα το αήττητο.

Ο Ολυμπιακός μπήκε νευρικός στο ματς, με το σκεπτικό ότι πρέπει να το κερδίσει και αυτό του στοίχισε πολλά άστοχα σουτ (1/10 τρίποντα) με συγκομιδή ημιχρόνου 28 πόντους. Στο ίδιο διάστημα και κυρίως στο 2ο δεκάλεπτο, η Λαμποράλ (που είναι και ομάδα ρυθμού) άρχισε να βρίσκει χέρι βλέποντας το καλάθι του Ολυμπιακού σαν βαρέλι σκοράροντας συνεχόμενα καλάθια, με τον Ολυμπιακό παράλληλα να δυσκολεύεται να σκοράρει έχοντας και αγχωτική κυκλοφορία της μπάλας. Ότι μπόρεσε να κάνει επιθετικά με drive του Σπανούλη, καθώς οι Λοτζέσκι, Πρίντεζης δε βοηθούν στο σκοράρισμα. Ο πρώτος δείχνει απρόθυμος να τελειώσει φάσεις και ο δεύτερος θέλει ακόμα να βρει τα πατήματά του. Σπάνιες οι συνεργασίες ψηλού - κοντού. Εμφανώς εκτός ρυθμού η ομάδα. Ούτε η είσοδος Σλούκα δε βοήθησε σε αυτό. Μεγάλο πλήγμα το αμυντικό ριμπάουντ που έδωσε αρκετά εύκολα καλάθια στη Λαμποράλ. Σκορ ημιχρόνου 28-37.

Γίνεται εμφανής η απουσία του Λαφαγιέτ που είναι πολύ πιεστικός στα αντίπαλα γκαρντ, αποσυντονίζοντάς τα και χαλώντας το ρυθμό των αντιπάλων. Ακόμα φάνηκε και η απουσία Αγραβάνη στο 4, αφού ο Πρίντεζης δεν είναι ακόμα έτοιμος και ο Πέτγουεϊ κάθε φορά παίζει - δεν παίζει με το πρόβλημα της μέσης του.

Ως εκεί όμως το πάρτι των Ισπανών. Ο Σφαιρόπουλος έδωσε εντολή να βελτιώσουν την άμυνα (κυρίως περιφερειακή) και να γίνουν πιο hard στη ρακέτα. Και αυτό έγινε. Ο Σπανούλης βελτίωσε την αφοσίωσή του στην άμυνα δίνοντας αρκετή ενέργεια, και φυσικά πήρε φωτιά και στην επίθεση. Πήρε προσωπικά σουτ (όχι βεβιασμένα) ευστοχώντας σχεδόν σε όλα και έτσι το -9 του ημιχρόνου μαζεύτηκε πολύ σύντομα. Συνεχίζουν τα αμυντικά ριμπάουντ και οι κακές περιστροφές στην άμυνα να δίνουν κάποιους πόντους στη Λαμπορά, αλλά η πολύ καλή επιθετική συγκομιδή των 26 πόντων του 3ου δεκαλέπτου του δίνει το προβάδισμα με 54-53. 

Η Λαμποράλ δεν πάτησε στο 4ο δεκάλεπτο στο γήπεδο. Η ενέργεια από το come back έδωσε στον Ολυμπιακό το ρυθμό που του έλλειπε στο 1ο ημίχρονο και με την ίδια φούρια συνέχισε και το 4ο δεκάλεπτο... Όλα τα σουτ πλέον πάνε μέσα. Τριποντάρα Μάντζαρη, δύο εύστοχα σουτ από Λοτχέσκι, πολύ καλά κοψίματα στη ρακέτα από Χάντερ ανέβηκε και αυτός και βοήθησε την ομάδα (και στο σκοράρισμα). Όσα σουτ έχασε στο 1ο ο Ολυμπιακός, τα χλάτσωσε στο 2ο. 

Η Λαμποράλ στην κυριολεξία τα έσπασε στο 2ο η,ίχρονο. Το πρώτο της καλάθι στο 4ο δεκάλεπτο το πέτυχε στο 35', σκοράροντας μόλις 11 πόντους. Τελικό σκορ 76-64 και σημαντική νίκη για τους ερυθρόλευκους, ειδικά και με τον τρόπο που επιτεύχθηκε.

Ο Ολυμπιακός έχει δύο δύσκολα ματς στη συνέχεια με Εφές εκτός και ΤΣΣΚΑ εντός. Έδειξε αδυναμίες σήμερα με μια πιο μέτρια ομάδα σε σχέση με αυτές που θα αντιμετωπίσει, οι οποίες έχουν και εξαιρετικούς προπονητές που μπορούν εύκολα να τα εντοπίσουν. Το ζητούμενο είναι για τους ερυθρόλευκους να τα βρουν και να τα βελτιώσουν άμεσα, γιατί η συνέχεια είναι πολύ κρίσιμη για το πλασάρισμά του στις δύο πρώτες προνομιούχες θέσεις. Spanoulis headlines come-from-behind Olympiacos win

Olympiacos Piraeus erased an 11-point third-quarter deficit to defeat Laboral Kutxa Vitoria 76-64 on Friday at Peace and Friendship Stadium. Vassilis Spanoulis scored 8 points and Kostas Sloukas dished 3 assists during a 20-2 charge from late in the third quarter until midway through the fourth that made it 67-53 and allowed the Reds to cruise to victory. Spanoulis paced the winners with 27 points and 6 assists as Olympiacos stayed pace with CSKA Moscow atop Top 16 Group F at 4-0. Laboral dropped to 1-3 and a share of sixth place. Othello Hunter added 14 points and 7 boards for the hosts, who extended their home-court winning streak to 11 Euroleague games. Darius Adams recorded 12 points and 5 assists for Laboral, while Toko Shengelia netted 10 points in defeat.

First quarter: Little separates teams early

Fabien Causeur opened the scoring for the visitors with a three-point play. Bryant Dunston put the hosts on the scoreboard, but Mirza Begic sank a jumper and Fernando San Emeterio drove into the paint to make it 2-7. Dunston and Shengelia traded free throws. The Reds started to find their footing as Spanoulis got his first points, Dunston his first block and Tremmell Darden narrowed the gap to 7-9. Bren Petway’s jumper tied the score. Shengelia fouled Darden from behind and the veteran forward gave Olympiacos its first lead, 10-9, midway through the quarter. After the TV timeout, Begic scored from close range. Spanoulis split free throws to tie the game at 11-11. Kim Tillie hit a fade-away jumper and Davis Bertans drilled a three for a 5-point Laboral advantage. Spanoulis responded immediately with a drive and Dunston and Kostas Sloukas added free throws to put Olympiacos on top 17-16. Mike James countered with foul shots of his own to leave Laboral with a 17-18 edge after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Three-pointers help Laboral pull in front

Mike James charged down the Olympiacos lane for a slam. Adams followed with a deep three for a 6-point Laboral advantage. Hunter scored down low, but Adams showed off his shooting range with an even longer triple to make it 19-26. Georgios Printezis was fouled on his baseline drive and hit both free throws, but a second Bertans three gave Laboral an 8-point cushion. Spanoulis took charge with a layup. Tillie stepped up for Laboral with a tip-in and a short jumper, though Spanoulis fed Hunter for a slam in between those baskets. Colton Iverson made free throws and rejected Dunston as the visitors took the difference to double figures at 25-35. Petway gave the crowd something to shout about with a three from the corner. After a timeout, Adams drove for a finger roll and a 28-37 lead at the break.

Third quarter: Spanoulis leads Olympiacos back

Shengelia and Dunston scored the first points of the second half. Laboral went to Shengelia again and he scored 2 free throws. Olympiacos looked to turn things around as Spanoulis drilled a three and Vangelis Mantzaris flipped to a cutting Petway for a wicked slam. Petway rose high to send a block into the stands. But San Emeterio’s fade away jumper was followed by a steal and score from Adams. Spanoulis connected from downtown again and Darden scored in transition to make it 40-45 midway through the quarter. Shengelia was in the right place to retrieve the ball and score after Spanoulsi blocked Adams. Mantzaris drained a three to bring the Reds within 4. Shengelia’s next bucket was matched by Spanoulis’s free throws. The Olympiacos legend drew his team within 47-49 with a short jumper. Bertans fed Iverson for a slam, but Spanoulis had the arena rocking with his next three. After Bertans missed twice from the charity stripe, Spanoulis ran the pick-and-roll with Hunter, who finished with a layup for a 52-51 Olympiacos lead. Spanoulis hit another jumper, but Tillie kept it close, 54-53.

Fourth quarter: Reds cap 20-2 run to wrap up victory

Matt Lojeski sank a smooth jumper to start the final stanza. Mantzaris found a cutting Hunter for a basket plus foul as the Reds looked to pull away. James fouled out and Lojeski buried a three for a 62-53 lead. Hunter made it a double-digit lead and Spanoulis added a three to bring the crowd to its feet at the end of a 20-2 run. More than five minutes passed in the quarter before Begic ended the Laboral drought with a pair of free throws. Spanoulis fed Hunter for a basket-plus-foul as the Reds continued to march. Begic generated a few more points from the line, but the fans were singing after Spanoulis’s next basket with less than two minutes remaining. The star guard got a standing ovation when he came out with the outcome clear. Adams free throws and a Ben Hansbrough triple narrowed the gap in the final minute, but it was Olympiacos that celebrated at the final buzzer.

Αποθέματα τέλος...

Βαριά ήττα 83-65 στην Μαδρίτη για τον Παναθηναϊκό, που ελλείψει αρκετών βασικών παικτών του λόγω τραυματισμού, έκανε αξιοπρεπή εμφάνιση για 25' λεπτά. Αλλά έπειτα από εκεί άρχισε να στερεύει από δυνάμεις, καθαρό μυλαό, καλές - ορθολογικές επιθέσεις και σε αντίθεση με το μεγάλο βάθος στο ρόστερ της Ρεάλ, δεν άντεξε και έχασε το παιχνίδι (διόλου άδικα βάση εικόνας παιχνιδιού).

Για τους πράσινους αγωνίστηκαν μόλις 8 παίκτες καθώς οι απουσίες των Γιάνκοβιτς, Παππά, Μαυροκεφαλίδη και Μποχωρίδη, έδωσαν θέση στο ρόστερ της ομάδας στους Κόνιαρη, Διαμαντάκο και Παπαγιάννη, οι οποίοι όμως δεν αγωνίστηκαν καθόλου. Βασικός ο Χαραλαμπόπουλος στη θέση 3 (όντας και το μόνο 3αρι ουσιαστικά) που αγωνίστηκε όλο το 1ο δεκάλεπτο, ο οποίος έδειξε ορεξάτος και μαχητικός, αλλά "απρόθυμος" στο να απειλήσει και να εκτελέσει. Προφανώς για αυτό δεν τον ξαναέβαλε ο Ιβάνοβιτς (παρά μονάχα στα 3 τελευταία λεπτά που όλα είχαν κριθεί). 

Ο Παναθηναϊκός ήταν μέσα στο παιχνίδι στο 1ο ημίχρονο (39-29) με την έννοια ότι έδειχνε να έχει τη θέληση να καταβάλει προσπάθεια για χτυπήσει το ματς. Αυτή η διάθεση όμως άρχισε να τον εγκαταλείπει στο β' μέρος αφού το rotation ήταν μικρό και η κούραση κέρδιζε έδαφος εις βάρος της διάθεσης... Έλλειψη καθαρή μυαλού και στην επίθεση και όλο περισσότερες επιθέσεις κατέληγαν σε μακρινά σουτ. Η αστοχία όμως στα τρίποντα (7/26) δεν ήταν με το μέρος του για να τον κρατήσει ζωντανό. Μοναδική απειλή κάτω από το καλάθι ο Μπατίστα, που έδωσε σκληρές μάχες με τα 5αρια της Ρεάλ (Νοτσιόνι - Σλότερ - Μπουρούση). Από την άλλη το να μαρκάρεις αυτούς τους παίκτες στην άμυνα σου στερούν και δυνάμεις από την επίθεση. 

Στη μέτρια εμφάνιση του Παναθηναϊκού δεν υπήρξε ιδιαίτερα κάποιος παίκτης που να ξεχώρισε. Αντιθέτως, τα πολλά αβίαστα λάθη και οι λάθος πάσες στην επίθεση δεν βοήθησαν στο να προβάλει αντίσταση στη Ρεάλ. Κακή εμφάνιση από Σλότερ (παρά τους 12 π.) με πολλά προσωπικά λάθη χειρισμού της μπάλας. Φαίνεται ότι του λείπει η πείρα στις μεγάλες διοργανώσεις. Περιμέναμε και το Νέλσον να βοηθήσει περισσότερο το Διαμαντίδη στη θέση 1, αλλά και σήμερα αποδείχθηκε λίγος.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός εκτέλεσε 36 δίποντα - 26 τρίποντα, απέναντι στα 43 δίποντα και 30 τρίποντα της Ρεάλ κάτι που φανερώνει το γρήγορο ρυθμό του ματς αλλά και την υπεροχή της Ρεάλ.

Reyes, Fernandez lead Madrid to big home win

In a battle between Turkish Airlines Euroleague giants, Real Madrid registered its fourth win in as many games in Group E by thrashing Panathinaikos Athens 83-65 in the Spanish capital on Thursday. Madrid improved to 4-0 in the Top 16, while Panathinaikos dropped to 2-2. Felipe Reyes led the winners with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Rudy Fernandez added 15 points, Sergio Llull had 14 while Sergio Rodriguez tallied 10 points and 7 assists for Madrid. Esteban Batista led Panathinaikos with 15 points and 9 rebounds. A.J. Slaughter added 12 points, while Janis Blums scored 10 for the Greens. A wild alley-oop slam by James Gist kept Panathinaikos within 10-9 midway through the first quarter. Llull took over right after that to boost Madrid's lead to 20-14 after 10 minutes. Fernandez and Rodriguez took over in the second quarter and a three-pointer by Andres Nocioni gave Los Blancos a double-digit margin, 39-29, at halftime. An outstanding Reyes helped Madrid to boost its margin to 60-48 after 30 minutes and a three-pointer by Jaycee Carroll sealed the outcome, 72-52, midway through the fourth quarter.

First quarter: Strong defense lifts home team

Reyes got Madrid going with a five-meter baseline jumper, but Antonis Fotsis beat the shot clock buzzer with a long two-pointer for a 2-2 tie. K.C. Rivers shined with a reverse layup and a floating jumper by Reyes gave Madrid a 6-2 lead. A.J. Slaughter struck from downtown and Reyes swished a mid-range jumper. Panathinaikos kept powering the offensive board without getting results on offense - 2-of-11 shooting. The guests tried a more athletic lineup with Fotsis and Gist together on court. Rudy Fernandez took over with a tip-in, Dimitris Diamantidis fed Gist for a layup and then again for an alley-oop slam that brought the Greens within 10-9. Fernandez kept pacing Madrid with a driving layup, which Llull followed with a three-pointer. Fotsis answered from downtown and DeMarcus Nelson scored in penetration, but Llull single-handily gave Madrid a 20-14 lead after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Rodriguez shines, Madrid takes off

Fernandez joined the three-point shootout early in the quarter. Esteban Batista scored around the basket, but Sergio Rodriguez sent a wild no-look assist to Ioannois Bourousis for an easy slam. Blums nailed his trademark three-pointer off the dribble. Fernandez scored again, but a high-flying slam by Gist silenced the crowd at 27-21. Rodriguez quickly banked in a running shot in transition, which a red-hot Gist bettered with a three-pointer to make it 29-24. After Nocioni answered from downtown, Batista scored around the basket and followed a three-pointer with a fast break layup to make it a double-digit game, 36-26. Blums buried another three, as Madrid tried to improve its defense with Nocioni and Marcus Slaughter around the baskets. Nocioni struck from downtown to set a 39-29 Madrid margin at halftime.

Third quarter: Madrid keeps safe margin

Reyes scored down low immediately after the break. A.J. Slaughter countered with free throws. Llull took over with a corner three that ignited the crowd at 44-31. A.J. Slaughter answered from downtown. Reyes hit free throws – Madrid's first trip to the foul line – but Batista brought Panathinaikos a bit closer, 46-37. A.J. Slaughter nailed a three-pointer and a coast-to-coast layup by Nelson caused Madrid to call timeout at 46-42. Fernandez stepped up with an electric driving layup, which Reyes followed with a two-handed slam for a 50-42 Madrid edge. Fernandez fed Carroll for a layup, which saw the Greens call timeout at 52-42. Reyes sank 4 free throws. Fotsis answered with a backdoor layup, but a wild basket by Fernandez broke the game open, 58-44, after a 12-2 run. After Nelson scored around the basket, Reyes shined with a put-back layup. A buzzer-beating tip-in by Blums kept Panathinaikos within 60-48.

Fourth quarter: Madrid seals big home win

Batista banked in a close shot early in the quarter, but Fernandez quickly answered with an off-balance basket, good for a 62-50 Madrid margin. Rodriguez took over with a fast break layup and a wild dunk by Marcus Slaughter made it a 16-point game. Llull fired in his fourth three-pointer, but Diamantidis beat the shot clock buzzer with a jumper. A big triple by Carroll sealed the outcome, 72-52, with six minutes left. Rodriguez took over with a wild driving layup. Batista hit free throws, but an alley-oop slam by Marcus Slaughter kept Madrid way ahead, 76-54. Batista scored again and added a three-point play, as both teams fought for point difference. Carroll sank his trademark catch-and-shoot triple and even though Fotsis scored down low, everything was said and done already, as Madrid pleased its fans with a very convincing home win.
