Άμυνα, άμυνα, άμυνα και... Μάντζαρης

Με σκληρή άμυνα και ομαδική προσπάθεια ο Ολυμπιακός κατάφερε να υπερκεράσει τους πολλούς τραυματισμούς (οι οποίοι συνεχώς αυξάνονται και κατά τη διάρκεια του αγώνα) και να κερδίσει τη Λαμποράλ στο ντέρμπι κορυφής του ομίλου. Η νίκη με 59-52 δίνει και την πρόκριση στους Πειραιώτες με επιμέρους σκορ 6-1 (Λαμποράλ και Τσεντεβίτα είναι στη 2η θέση με 4-3) και πιθανώς και την 1η θέση του ομίλου.

Αυτή η νίκη-πρόκριση είναι σημαντική για τον επόμενο μήνα, αφού αγωνιστικά ο Ολυμπιακός έχει τη δυνατότητα να ανταπεξέλθει των τραυματισμών και επιπλέον να δώσει χρόνο συμμετοχής και εμπειρίας στους νεότερους και νεοφερμένους παίκτες.

Από τη στιγμή που αποχώρησε ο Σπανούλης με διάστρεμμα και απόντος Πρίντεζη, "ηγέτης" της ομάδας ήταν ο Βαγγέλης Μάντζαρης που καθοδήγησε (με όλη τη σημασία της λέξης) την ομάδα, παίρνοντας και ρόλο εκτελεστή όταν έπρεπε. Αν και άστοχος στα δίποντα (και γενικά όλη η ομάδα), έβαλε και αυτός και ο Αθηναίου δύο κρίσιμα τρίποντα στο τέλος (από ένα έκαστος) και δεν άφησε τη Λαμποράλ να τον απειλήσει, όταν οι Βάσκοι έκαναν το come back στην 3η-4η περίοδο.

Στα του αγώνα...

Ο Ολυμπιακός μπήκε ζεστός με σερί 9-0 παίζοντας καλή άμυνα, με τον Αγραβάνη στο 5. Καλός από την αρχή ο Μάντζαρης. Τα πολλά λάθη εκατέρωθεν άφησαν το σκορ για αρκετή ώρα στο 12-6, με κακές και βιαστικές επιθέσεις και από τις δύο ομάδες. Σκορ 1ου δεκαλέπτου 12-6.

Για να ξεκολλήσει στην επίθεση, ο Σφαιρόπουλος ζήτησε γρήγορο παιχνίδι και πήρε πόντους στην επίθεση αφού στο σετ παιχνίδι ζορίστηκε. Επέστρεψε ο Παπαπέτρου μετά το μικροτραυματισμό του και έδωσε πόντους και στην επίθεση. 

Κοντά σχήματα αναγκαστικά με τον Χάντερ πολύ ουσιαστικό, να αποτελεί το μοναδικό πεντάρι της ομάδας. Αρκετά σχήματα με Τσαϊρέλη και Αγραβάνη στο 4-5. Ενώ είδαμε και καθαρή ελληνική 5άδα με Μάντζαρη - Σπανούλη - Παπαπέτρου - Τσαιρέλη - Αγραβάνη. Πολύ ενεργό και καθοριστικό ρόλο στο παιχνίδι της ομάδας και ο Αθηναίου. 

Αυτός ο ελληνικός κορμός της ομάδας είναι το κλειδί για τη συσπείρωση και τις παλικαρίσιες νίκες που παίρνει η ομάδα. Αυτή είναι και η διαφορά με τις Τούρκικες ομάδες, που όπως έχουμε ξαναπεί από το blog αυτό, έχουν το κασέρι να πάρουν την αφρόκρεμα του παγκόσμιου μπάσκετ, αλλά χωρίς καλούς γηγενείς παίκτες δεν κάνεις ομάδα...

Σκορ ημιχρόνου 36-22. Ευτυχώς για τους ερυθρόλευκους, είναι πολύ άστοχη στα εντός πεδιάς η Λαμποράλ, όταν έχει 88 πόντους μέσο όρο στη επίθεση. 

Η Λαμποράλ δεν έδειξε οτι θέλει να διεκδικήσει το ματς. Δεν είχε συνοχή στο παιχνίδι της. Αντίθετα ο Ολυμπιακός πολύ συγκροτημένος, ήξερε τι θέλει και τελικά το πήρε... 

Η έλλειψη ψηλού να κοντράρει τον Μπουρούση άρχισε να φέρνει κούραση στον Ολυμπιακό και να αμύνεται με φάουλ. Απο το 25' συμπλήρωσε τα 5 ομαδικά με Στρόμπερι και Μάντζαρη να φτάνουν τα 4 ατομικά. Η Λαμποράλ γνωρίζει το πρόβλημα στο 5 και χτυπάει πολύ με Μπουρούση. 

Πολλά άστοχα σουτ και λέει απ για τον Ολυμπιακό και έτσι η Λαμποράλ πλησιάζει στο 49-47. Ο Αθηναίου δίνει ρυθμό. Ο Μάντζαρης οργανωτικός και παίζει από το 32' με 4 φάουλ. Ο Σπανούλης κουτσαίνει και αποχωρεί. Με rotation 8 παιχτών θα τελειώσει τα τελευταία 5' ο Ολυμπιακός. 

Κρίσιμα λάθη ο Χάκετ. Χάνει τη μπάλα στο κέντρο και δίνει δώρο λέι απ δίποντο για το 51-49. Εκεί μίλησε ο εκτελεστής αυτή τη φορά Μάντζαρης. Με κρίσιμο τρίποντο κάνει το 54-49 και καπάκια παίζει μοναδική ατομική άμυνα στον Μπλαζιτς. 

Ένα ακόμα κρίσιμο τρίποντο και από τον Αθηναίου για το 57-51 Είναι clutch player ο άτιμος, ή τπουλάχιστον έτσι έχει δείξει ως τώρα. Συνολικά 3/15 τρίποντα είχε ο Ολυμπιακός, τα δυο εξ αυτών στο καθοριστικότερο σημείο.

Καθοριστικό ριμπάουντ και στη συνέχεια κλέψιμο από Μάντζαρη που οδήγησε την ομαδα στη νίκη. Έτρεξε και την ομάδα όταν έπρεπε για να εκμεταλλευτεί τις αργές επιστροφές της Λαμποράλ. Τελικό 59-52. Ξεκάθαρα πήρε το ματς από την άμυνα ο Ολυπμιακός. 

Basket Analysis

Αλλαγές στα σκριν: Ο Σφαιρόπουλος σε πολλά σημεία του ματς επέλεξε άμυνες με αλλαγές στα σκριν, κυρίως όταν έπαιζε με κοντά σχήματα, για τη γρήγορη  αλληλοκάλυψη και εξοικονόμηση ενέργειας λόγω έλλειψης ψηλών.

Αντιμετώπιση Μπουρούση: Όταν τον έπαιζε ο Αγραβάνης, έβγαινε deny από μπροστά του Έλληνα σέντερ της Λαμποράλ και ταυτόχρονα πήγαινε double team το 2 ή 3 της weak-side για να κλείσει τον Μπουρούση σε περίπτωση που περνούσε η μπάλα με λόμπα,

Olympiacos tops Laboral and punches Top 16 ticket

In a physical, defensive showdown that went down to the wire, Olympiacos Piraeus qualified to the Top 16 from Group B by downing Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz 59-52 at home on Thursday. Olympiacos was without four key players and lost superstar Vassilis Spanoulis midway through the fourth quarter, but managed to improve to 6-1 and seal its ticket to the next stage. Laboral dropped to 4-3. Spanoulis led the winners with 10 points, but seven other players scored 6 or more. Ioannis Bourousis led Laboral with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Jaka Blazic and Darius Adams each had 11 points for the visitors. Vangelis Mantzaris led a 12-1 opening run, which allowed the hosts to keep a 12-6 margin after 10 minutes. Olympiacos boosted its margin to 36-22 at halftime, but Laboral, led by an outstanding Bourousis, cut its deficit to 46-39 at the end of the third quarter and then again to 51-49 with three minutes left. Mantzaris hit a key three-pointer and Ioannis Athinaiou also buried one from beyond the arc to seal the outcome down the stretch.

First quarter: Defenses set the early tone

D.J. Strawberry got Olympiacos going with a reverse layup and Spanoulis scored in penetration for a 4-0 lead. Laboral was held scoreless in the opening three minutes, while a layup Dimitrios Agravanis and a three-pointer by Vangelis Mantzaris prompted the guests to call timeout at 9-0. After Adam Hanga split free throws, a three-point play by Mantzaris gave the Reds their first double-digit lead, 12-1. Bourouis tried to change things with a three-point play and Fabien Causeur added a layup off a steal to make it 12-6. Ioannis Papapetrou left the game with a sprained ankle, though he would later return. Olympiacos started to miss shots, as the game turned into a physical battle. Neither team scored in the final five minutes of the quarter, combining for 13 missed shots and 8 turnovers.

Second quarter: Olympiacos takes off

Othello Hunter scored around the basket early in the quarter and a coast-to-coast layup by Daniel Hackett set a 16-6 Olympiacos margin. Laboral kept struggling to score and Spanoulis downed his trademark stop-and-pop jumper for a 12-point lead. Jaka Blazic hit an off-balance shot and soon added a close basket to keep the guests within 19-10. Agravanis made free throws, but Blazic answered with a put-back basket. Ioannis Athinaiou boosted his team's lead to 23-12. Blazic struck from downtown and a put-back layup by Alberto Corbacho caused the Reds to call timeout at 23-17. Bourousis scored down low, but Hunter dunked and a layup by Strawberry gave Olympiacos a 27-19 advantage. Bourousis took over with a put-back basket, but Hunter and Agravanis answered with consecutive layups. Papapetrou returned to action and ignited the crowd with a reverse layup and a jump hook off a spin move, good for a 36-22 Olympiacos lead at halftime.

Third quarter: Laboral keeps its chances alive

Bourousis hit a mid-range jumper immediately after the break and Hanga added a fast break layup that made it 36-26. Spanoulis stepped up with a second-chance basket, as Laboral switched to a small lineup with Hanga at power forward. Olympiacos dominated the game with outstanding defense, now allowing Laboral to run its offense through Bourousis. Spanoulis and Darius Adams exchanged foul shots and a one-handed dunk by Hunter brought the crowd to its feet at 42-28. Hackett took over with a wild driving layup, which Adams matched with an acrobatic basket. Blazic scored in penetration and free throws by Bourousis gave Laboral hope at 44-34. Olympiacos could not find a way to the basket and free throws by Bourousis got the guests within single digits. Adams swished a seven-meter bomb, but Michais Tsairelis beat the buzzer with a layup that gave the Reds a 46-39 lead.

Fourth quarter: Excitement till the end

Hackett hit a tough turnaround shot early in the quarter, but Corbacho immediately answered from downtown to keep Laboral within 48-42. Spanoulis split free throws and left the game after that due to a leg injury, Bourousis hit a jump hook and a layup-plus-foul by Hanga made it a 2-point game with 7 minutes left. Olympiacos lacked ball circulation without Spanoulis on court, but Papapetrou shined with a one-handed breakaway dunk that caused the guests call timeout at 51-47. Adams scored off a midcourt steal to keep Laboral within 2 with three minutes to go. After Mantzaris buried a critical three-pointer, Adams made free throws. Athinaiou struck from downtown, which prompted Laboral to stop the game at 57-51 in the next-to-last minute. Bourousis split free throws and a layup by Strawberry sealed the outcome, 59-52, as the guests never recovered.

ΣΠΑ-ΝΟΥ-ΛΑ-ΡΟΣ !!!

Dr Jekyll και mr Hyde θύμισε απόψε ο Ολυμπιακός στο Σ.Ε.Φ. καθώς έδειξε δύο αντίθετα πρόσωπα, ένα σε κάθε ημίχρονο. Ευτυχώς κράτησε το καλό του πρόσωπο για το τέλος και επιβλήθηκε της Λαμποράλ με 76-64 και έκανε το 4-0 στο Top-16. Αυτός και οι ΤΣΣΚΑ - Ρεάλ έχουν για την ώρα το αήττητο.

Ο Ολυμπιακός μπήκε νευρικός στο ματς, με το σκεπτικό ότι πρέπει να το κερδίσει και αυτό του στοίχισε πολλά άστοχα σουτ (1/10 τρίποντα) με συγκομιδή ημιχρόνου 28 πόντους. Στο ίδιο διάστημα και κυρίως στο 2ο δεκάλεπτο, η Λαμποράλ (που είναι και ομάδα ρυθμού) άρχισε να βρίσκει χέρι βλέποντας το καλάθι του Ολυμπιακού σαν βαρέλι σκοράροντας συνεχόμενα καλάθια, με τον Ολυμπιακό παράλληλα να δυσκολεύεται να σκοράρει έχοντας και αγχωτική κυκλοφορία της μπάλας. Ότι μπόρεσε να κάνει επιθετικά με drive του Σπανούλη, καθώς οι Λοτζέσκι, Πρίντεζης δε βοηθούν στο σκοράρισμα. Ο πρώτος δείχνει απρόθυμος να τελειώσει φάσεις και ο δεύτερος θέλει ακόμα να βρει τα πατήματά του. Σπάνιες οι συνεργασίες ψηλού - κοντού. Εμφανώς εκτός ρυθμού η ομάδα. Ούτε η είσοδος Σλούκα δε βοήθησε σε αυτό. Μεγάλο πλήγμα το αμυντικό ριμπάουντ που έδωσε αρκετά εύκολα καλάθια στη Λαμποράλ. Σκορ ημιχρόνου 28-37.

Γίνεται εμφανής η απουσία του Λαφαγιέτ που είναι πολύ πιεστικός στα αντίπαλα γκαρντ, αποσυντονίζοντάς τα και χαλώντας το ρυθμό των αντιπάλων. Ακόμα φάνηκε και η απουσία Αγραβάνη στο 4, αφού ο Πρίντεζης δεν είναι ακόμα έτοιμος και ο Πέτγουεϊ κάθε φορά παίζει - δεν παίζει με το πρόβλημα της μέσης του.

Ως εκεί όμως το πάρτι των Ισπανών. Ο Σφαιρόπουλος έδωσε εντολή να βελτιώσουν την άμυνα (κυρίως περιφερειακή) και να γίνουν πιο hard στη ρακέτα. Και αυτό έγινε. Ο Σπανούλης βελτίωσε την αφοσίωσή του στην άμυνα δίνοντας αρκετή ενέργεια, και φυσικά πήρε φωτιά και στην επίθεση. Πήρε προσωπικά σουτ (όχι βεβιασμένα) ευστοχώντας σχεδόν σε όλα και έτσι το -9 του ημιχρόνου μαζεύτηκε πολύ σύντομα. Συνεχίζουν τα αμυντικά ριμπάουντ και οι κακές περιστροφές στην άμυνα να δίνουν κάποιους πόντους στη Λαμπορά, αλλά η πολύ καλή επιθετική συγκομιδή των 26 πόντων του 3ου δεκαλέπτου του δίνει το προβάδισμα με 54-53. 

Η Λαμποράλ δεν πάτησε στο 4ο δεκάλεπτο στο γήπεδο. Η ενέργεια από το come back έδωσε στον Ολυμπιακό το ρυθμό που του έλλειπε στο 1ο ημίχρονο και με την ίδια φούρια συνέχισε και το 4ο δεκάλεπτο... Όλα τα σουτ πλέον πάνε μέσα. Τριποντάρα Μάντζαρη, δύο εύστοχα σουτ από Λοτχέσκι, πολύ καλά κοψίματα στη ρακέτα από Χάντερ ανέβηκε και αυτός και βοήθησε την ομάδα (και στο σκοράρισμα). Όσα σουτ έχασε στο 1ο ο Ολυμπιακός, τα χλάτσωσε στο 2ο. 

Η Λαμποράλ στην κυριολεξία τα έσπασε στο 2ο η,ίχρονο. Το πρώτο της καλάθι στο 4ο δεκάλεπτο το πέτυχε στο 35', σκοράροντας μόλις 11 πόντους. Τελικό σκορ 76-64 και σημαντική νίκη για τους ερυθρόλευκους, ειδικά και με τον τρόπο που επιτεύχθηκε.

Ο Ολυμπιακός έχει δύο δύσκολα ματς στη συνέχεια με Εφές εκτός και ΤΣΣΚΑ εντός. Έδειξε αδυναμίες σήμερα με μια πιο μέτρια ομάδα σε σχέση με αυτές που θα αντιμετωπίσει, οι οποίες έχουν και εξαιρετικούς προπονητές που μπορούν εύκολα να τα εντοπίσουν. Το ζητούμενο είναι για τους ερυθρόλευκους να τα βρουν και να τα βελτιώσουν άμεσα, γιατί η συνέχεια είναι πολύ κρίσιμη για το πλασάρισμά του στις δύο πρώτες προνομιούχες θέσεις. Εξαιρετικό φέτος το Top-16! Αδημονούμε για τη συνέχεια! Devotion!

Spanoulis headlines come-from-behind Olympiacos win

Olympiacos Piraeus erased an 11-point third-quarter deficit to defeat Laboral Kutxa Vitoria 76-64 on Friday at Peace and Friendship Stadium. Vassilis Spanoulis scored 8 points and Kostas Sloukas dished 3 assists during a 20-2 charge from late in the third quarter until midway through the fourth that made it 67-53 and allowed the Reds to cruise to victory. Spanoulis paced the winners with 27 points and 6 assists as Olympiacos stayed pace with CSKA Moscow atop Top 16 Group F at 4-0. Laboral dropped to 1-3 and a share of sixth place. Othello Hunter added 14 points and 7 boards for the hosts, who extended their home-court winning streak to 11 Euroleague games. Darius Adams recorded 12 points and 5 assists for Laboral, while Toko Shengelia netted 10 points in defeat.

First quarter: Little separates teams early

Fabien Causeur opened the scoring for the visitors with a three-point play. Bryant Dunston put the hosts on the scoreboard, but Mirza Begic sank a jumper and Fernando San Emeterio drove into the paint to make it 2-7. Dunston and Shengelia traded free throws. The Reds started to find their footing as Spanoulis got his first points, Dunston his first block and Tremmell Darden narrowed the gap to 7-9. Bren Petway’s jumper tied the score. Shengelia fouled Darden from behind and the veteran forward gave Olympiacos its first lead, 10-9, midway through the quarter. After the TV timeout, Begic scored from close range. Spanoulis split free throws to tie the game at 11-11. Kim Tillie hit a fade-away jumper and Davis Bertans drilled a three for a 5-point Laboral advantage. Spanoulis responded immediately with a drive and Dunston and Kostas Sloukas added free throws to put Olympiacos on top 17-16. Mike James countered with foul shots of his own to leave Laboral with a 17-18 edge after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Three-pointers help Laboral pull in front

Mike James charged down the Olympiacos lane for a slam. Adams followed with a deep three for a 6-point Laboral advantage. Hunter scored down low, but Adams showed off his shooting range with an even longer triple to make it 19-26. Georgios Printezis was fouled on his baseline drive and hit both free throws, but a second Bertans three gave Laboral an 8-point cushion. Spanoulis took charge with a layup. Tillie stepped up for Laboral with a tip-in and a short jumper, though Spanoulis fed Hunter for a slam in between those baskets. Colton Iverson made free throws and rejected Dunston as the visitors took the difference to double figures at 25-35. Petway gave the crowd something to shout about with a three from the corner. After a timeout, Adams drove for a finger roll and a 28-37 lead at the break.

Third quarter: Spanoulis leads Olympiacos back

Shengelia and Dunston scored the first points of the second half. Laboral went to Shengelia again and he scored 2 free throws. Olympiacos looked to turn things around as Spanoulis drilled a three and Vangelis Mantzaris flipped to a cutting Petway for a wicked slam. Petway rose high to send a block into the stands. But San Emeterio’s fade away jumper was followed by a steal and score from Adams. Spanoulis connected from downtown again and Darden scored in transition to make it 40-45 midway through the quarter. Shengelia was in the right place to retrieve the ball and score after Spanoulsi blocked Adams. Mantzaris drained a three to bring the Reds within 4. Shengelia’s next bucket was matched by Spanoulis’s free throws. The Olympiacos legend drew his team within 47-49 with a short jumper. Bertans fed Iverson for a slam, but Spanoulis had the arena rocking with his next three. After Bertans missed twice from the charity stripe, Spanoulis ran the pick-and-roll with Hunter, who finished with a layup for a 52-51 Olympiacos lead. Spanoulis hit another jumper, but Tillie kept it close, 54-53.

Fourth quarter: Reds cap 20-2 run to wrap up victory

Matt Lojeski sank a smooth jumper to start the final stanza. Mantzaris found a cutting Hunter for a basket plus foul as the Reds looked to pull away. James fouled out and Lojeski buried a three for a 62-53 lead. Hunter made it a double-digit lead and Spanoulis added a three to bring the crowd to its feet at the end of a 20-2 run. More than five minutes passed in the quarter before Begic ended the Laboral drought with a pair of free throws. Spanoulis fed Hunter for a basket-plus-foul as the Reds continued to march. Begic generated a few more points from the line, but the fans were singing after Spanoulis’s next basket with less than two minutes remaining. The star guard got a standing ovation when he came out with the outcome clear. Adams free throws and a Ben Hansbrough triple narrowed the gap in the final minute, but it was Olympiacos that celebrated at the final buzzer.

Άμυνα από ατσάλι...

Με άμυνα που δεν άφηνε περιθώρια στους Ισπανούς να μπουν μέσα στη ρακέτα του, ο Ολυμπιακός πήρε αμυντικά το 100% από τους παίκτες του και τελικά τη νίκη με 63-57. Αν και η Λαμποράλ ήταν συνεχώς κοντά στο σκορ, και μάλιστα προσπέρασε και λίγους πόντους στο 3ο-4ο δεκάλεπτο, δε σου έδινε την αίσθηση ότι μπορεί να απειλήσει και να χτυπήσει το ματς Έτσι και αυτός ο κακός επιθετικά Ολυμπιακός μπόρεσε και την κέρδισε.

Αυτός που ανέλαβε στα κρίσιμα να πάρει το βάρος των επιθέσεων ήταν ο Λοτζέσκι. Και δικαιώθηκε. Πολύ μεστό παιχνίδι, έβαλε τα σουτ (6/8 διπ. - 1/4 τριπ.), ενώ ήταν καθοριστικός και στην άμυνα (4 κλ. - 4 ρ.). 

Το μεγαλύτερο κέρδος όμως ήταν η "ανάσταση" του Ντάνστον που πήγε καλά τόσο αμυντικά όσο και επιθετικά (10 π. - 2 κοψ. - 6 ρ.), αλλά και ο Αγραβάνης που θωράκισε την άμυνα στη θέση 4 και έδωσε μερικές λύσεις και στην επίθεση. 

Αξιόπιστος και στη θέση 5 ο Χάντερ, από τον οποίο περιμένουμε περισσότερη εμπιστοσύνη στον εαυτό του και να πάρει και φάσεις με την πλάτη ώστε να γίνει πιο ορθολογικός και ο τρόπος ανάπτυξης της ομάδας. 

Παρών - απόν ο Πέτγουεϊ, περιμέναμε περισσότερα. Σε μέτρια επίπεδα κινήθηκε και ο Σπανούλης.

Ο Σλούκας με την είσοδό του στο 2 ημίχρονο έδωσε ωραίο ρυθμό στην ομάδα και κατάφερε η ομάδα να ανακτήσει τη διαφορά από το εις βάρος της -3. Ο Τόμιτς τον έβγαλε 7΄πριν τη λήξη και δεν τον ξαναχρησιμοποίησε.

Λύσεις έδωσε και ο Λαφαγιέτ, αν και θέλει ακόμα περίοδο προσαρμογής στον τρόπο λειτουργίας της ομάδας.

Στα "πικάντικα" του αγώνα, η αντίδραση του Τόμιτς στο time-out που πήρε όταν η Λαμποράλ ξέφυγε στο σκορ, όπου πέταξε αλλά "Ιωαννίδης" τον πίνακα τακτικής στο πάτωμα και τα έψαλε στους παίκτες του, αλλά και η λογομαχία του με τον Χάντερ, με χαρακτηριστική κίνηση του χεριού του να του δείχνει τα αποδυτήρια...

Olympiacos tops Laboral for second victory 

Olympiacos Piraeus picked up its second close victory this season, holding off Laboral Kutxa Vitoria 63-57 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Friday night. Olympiacos improved to 2-0 in a share of top spot in Group D, while Laboral dropped to 1-1. The Reds opened the game with a 17-7 lead, but Laboral rallied with two triples apiece from Fernando San Emeterio and Doron Perkins, cutting it to 35-31 at halftime. A 2-10 third quarter run, with Colton Iverson and San Emeterio in main roles, put the visitors up 40-43, but Kostas Sloukas ignited the Olympiacos offense, before Matt Lojeski and Brynat Dunston converted down the stretch, as the Reds prevailed. Lojeski finished with 15 points and 4 steals, while Dunston collected 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Othello Hunter and Vassilis Spanoulis scored 9 apiece in victory. San Emeterio paced the visitors with 15 points on 4-for-6 shooting from downtown, and Tornike Shengelia scored 11. Iverson and Davis Bertans contributed with 8 points each in defeat. 

A 12-0 run puts the Reds in control 

A driving layup from Shengelia and a tip-in from Bertans got Laboral going, but Lojeski scored a fastbreak layup and Hunter made a hook-shot to make it 5-4 after three minutes. Bertans nailed the first three-pointer of the game, but Lojeski answered with one from downtown, too. After a drive from Spanoulis, it was Vangelis Mantzaris who buried a long jumper for a 12-7 lead. Hunter had a big dunk just before being replaced by Dunston, who immediately contributed from short range for a 17-7 lead. Just before the end of the quarter, Fabien Causeur nailed a triple to snap a 12-0 run, making it 17-10 after 10 minutes. 

Perkins and San Emeterio rally Laboral from downtown 

Neither teams scored early in the quarter before Dunston made a put-back dunk. Kim Tillie scored inside to get Laboral within 19-12, but a baseline jumper from Lojeski, and a three-pointer from Oliver Lafayette extended the difference to 24-12. The visitors had an answer from long range. After Tillie made a pair of free throws, San Emeterio nailed a pair of threes, cutting the gap to 26-20 and forcing an Olympiacos timeout. Another triple, this time from Perkins, got Laboral within 3, as the visitors allowed only one field goal in more than six minutes. But free throws from Lafayette extended it to 30-23, before Perkins buried a triple in the final seconds of the half, making it 30-26 at halftime. 

Laboral takes lead, Reds finish strong behind Sloukas 

Iverson made free throws for the visitors, while Olympiacos was held scoreless for two and a half minutes until Mantzaris sank a triple. Iverson and Dunston traded baskets from close range to make it 35-30 before another scoring drought was ended by Causeur, who made a steal and raced for a fastbreak layup. Lojeski made a layup and hit a mid-range jumper, but Shengelia nailed a three-pointer, Iverson scored an acrobatic layup in traffic, and San Emeterio buried an off-balance triple to give Laboral a 40-41 lead. After free throws from Shengelia, Sloukas snapped a 2-10 run with a three-pointer for the Reds, and then assisted a Dimitrios Agravanis layup. On the other end, Shengelia made a strong move to the basket, but Sloukas dished a no-look pass to Hunter for a buzzer-beating dunk, leaving the scoreboard on 48-45. 

Lojeski and Dunston help the Reds prevail 

Αgravanis opened the scoring in the quarter with a layup after another no-look pass from Sloukas, but San Emeterio nailed a three-pointer and soon added a coast-to-coast layup to make it 52-50. Lojeski nailed a jumper, but Iverson muscled his way inside to keep it a one possession game. Hunter scored from close range, but Bertans answered with a shot from long range to get within 56-55. Lojeski knocked down another mid-range jumper and as the game was going down the wire, Olympiacos got important offensive boards from Dunston and Spanoulis, and a huge block from Petway. In the final minute, Dunston rose high above the rim for a put-back dunk and a 61-55 lead with 41 seconds left, to seal the deal.
