Με όπλο τον κόσμο...

Με όπλο του τον κόσμο και την "ασφάλεια-σιγουριά" του ΟΑΚΑ, ο Παναθηναϊκός κέρδισε στο νήμα την ΤΣΣΚΑ με 86-85. Σε ένα μοναδικό 4ο δεκάλεπτο (επιμέρους 30-32) με αγωνιώδες φινάλε, τελικά οι πράσινοι κατάφεραν να κερδίσουν το ματς, αν και φαινόταν να το έλεγχαν ως και 2'-3' πριν τη λήξη. Οι πράσινοι μείωσαν στο 1-2 και βλέπουν με αισιοδοξία το 4ο ματς την Τετάρτη. 

Ο Παναθηναϊκός έβγαλε ενέργεια στην άμυνα και δυσκόλεψε τις επιθετικές επιλογές της ΤΣΚΚΑ. Φάνηκε να καλύπτει τα αμυντικά κενά που έδειξε στα δύο πρώτα ματς. Έτσι ανάγκασε την ΤΣΣΚΑ να κάνει πολλά άστοχα σουτ και να μη βρει ρυθμό. Πληγή ήταν όμως τα αμυντικά ριμπάουντ καθώς έδινε στην ΤΣΚΚΑ πολλές δεύτερες επιθέσεις. 

Αρχικά από τις αντιδράσεις των παικτών του Παναθηναϊκού, φαινόταν να μην πιστεύουν ότι μπορούν να καταφέρουν, σαν να είχαν ένα τεράστιο βουνό να ανέβουν. Με την πάροδο του χρόνου όμως που έμπαιναν και τα σουτ και δεν άφηναν και την ΤΣΚΚΑ να ξεφύγει, άρχισαν να βγάζουν ψυχή και να μάχονται περισσότερο. 

Σε ψυχωμένη κατάσταση ήταν και ο Παππάς. Από τους λίγους που μπήκαν με μαχητική διάθεση στο ματς (χαρακτηριστική η βουτιά για να κλέψει την μπάλα από τον Τεόντοσιτς). Θα πρέπει η νεανική αυτή ομάδα του Παναθηναϊκού στη μαχητικότητα αυτή να προσθέσει και μυαλό, αφενός στην άμυνα που πολλές φορές αφήνουν ελεύθερους τους αντιπάλους του χάνοντας τις περιστροφές, αφετέρου στην επίθεση που πολλές φορές από υπερβάλλον ζήλο, δεν κάνουν καλές επιθέσεις και πουλάνε τη μπάλα ή κολλάει στα χέρια τους και πάνε σε "τρελό" ένας με έναν.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός ήταν καταιγιστικός στα τρίποντα με 16/31 (52%), περισσότερα από δίποντα (8/25) Ευτυχώς για αυτόν, καθώς έτσι κατάφερε και πήρε το ματς. Δε θα είχε τύχη αλλιώς. Αυτό είναι το εντός έδρας όπλο του, όπου νιώθει καλά και σουτάρει κατά βούληση. Το έχουμε δει και σε άλλες εντός έδρας εμφανίσεις φέτος. Το όπλο αυτό όμως αποτελεί και αδυναμία του στα εκτός έδρας ματς, που τα ποσοστά του εκεί είναι σαφώς πιο πεσμένα. 

Τα περισσότερα από τα τρίποντα αυτά βέβαια, ήταν υπό καλές προϋποθέσεις και ύστερα από καλή κυκλοφορία της μπάλας. Ένας από τους βασικούς λόγος που πήγε σε περισσότερα τρίποντα από δίποντα, ήταν και η χαμηλή απόδοση του Μπατίστα, που ήταν φειδωλός και διστακτικός με την μπάλα στα χέρια. Και όταν αποφάσισε να απελευθερωθεί και να μη φοβηθεί τις προσπάθειες, κόπηκε με ευκολία από τα ψηλότερα κορμιά της ΤΣΣΚΑ. Εν γένει οι φόργουορντ του Παναθηναϊκού (Φώτσης, Μαυροκεφαλίδης, Γκιστ) έχουν το σουτ και το εμπιστεύονται, ιδίως όταν έχουν να αντιμετωπίσουν τα θηριώδη κορμιά των Ρώσων. 

Μυθική εμφάνιση Παππά με 25 πόντους και PIR 31, προσωπικά ρεκόρ αμφότερα για την Ευρωλίγκα. Έκανε άνω κάτω την άμυνα της ΤΣΣΚΑ, σκοτώνοντας τη με 5/7 τρίποντα (ρεκόρ).

Ενώ στο 4ο δεκάλεπτο έλεγχε το ματς, ο Γουίμς άρχισε να σκοράρει με κάθε τρόπο και με απόλυτη ευστοχία και να μαζεύει τη διάφορα. Και ενώ μείωνε η ΤΣΣΚΑ, ο Παναθηναϊκός "πέταγε" το τριποντάκι του και ξανάπαιρνε προβάδισμα ασφαλείας. 

Το προβάδισμα περίπου 7 πόντων (77-70) ροκάνισε η ΤΣΣΚΑ με τα φάουλ σκοπιμότητας που της βγήκαν, καθώς μετά τις βολές του Παναθηναϊκού, είχε απάντηση με τρίποντο (Γουίμς - Τεόντοσιτς) στην επόμενη επίθεση. Καταφέρνει και ισοφαρίζει σε 85-85 και εκεί ο Γουίμς (προσωπική άποψη) έκανε κακό φάουλ στα 3.5" (εκτός αν ήταν εντολή Ιτούδη) δίνοντας βολές στον Παππά, ο οποίος έγραψε το 86-85. Λανθασμένη τελευταία επίθεση από τους Ρώσους και νίκη για τους πράσινους.

Η ΤΣΣΚΑ είναι ανώτερη ξεκάθαρα. Ο Παναθηναϊκός στην άμυνα δεν μπορεί να μαρκάρει μέσα στη ρακέτα τους Ρώσους, ούτε και να επιτεθεί ανάλογα από το 5. Έφαγε αρκετά εύκολα καλάθια και το πήρε καθαρά με την επίθεση. Το υποδεικνύει και το σκορ. Ερώτημα - πρόβλημα που καλείται να επιλύσει ο Ιβάνοβιτς, είναι πώς μπορεί να πάρει ένα ματς, αν δε βγουν τα σουτ... Η απάντηση επί της οθόνης μας στη συνέχεια της σειράς... DEVOTION!

Panathinaikos breaks three-point record to stop CSKA 86-85

In a game full of momentum changes, Panathinaikos Athens needed a playoffs long-distance shooting record to hold off CSKA Moscow with an 86-85 home win and prolong their best-of-five playoff series after a dramatic finish. CSKA leads the series 2-1 and can still clinch a Final Four spot in Game 4 on Wednesday in Athens. It was game of swings from the tipoff. Panathinaikos scored the first 5 points of the first quarter and first 7 of the second, while CSKA had the next 12 and 10, respectively. But the key run was 21-4 by the hosts bridging halftime and giving them control enough to lead 71-61 with under 5 minutes left. Sonny Weems scored 11 points in the next 3 minutes as part of a spectacular three-point shooting battle, however, and a tip-in by Kyle Hines with 4 seconds left produced an 85-85 tie. But Weems fouled Panathinaikos hero Nikos Pappas and his free throw meant the difference in the victory. Pappas hit 5 three-pointers to lead the Greens with 25 points, while Antonis Fotsis scored all of his 12 points from the arc. The had 9 of their team's 16 three-pointers, a new playoffs record. Dimitris Diamantidis added 15 points and 7 assists while James Gist scored 11. For CSKA, Weems scored 20 of his 24 points in the game's last 7 minutes, 25 seconds. Nando De Colo added 10, Milos Teodosic 12 points and 9 assists, Andre Kirilenko 11 and Hines 10.

FIRST QUARTER: Kirilenko pulls CSKA in front

Turnovers by both teams betrayed nerves until Esteban Batista was perfect at the free throw line and Diamantidis buried a second-chance triple for a 5-0 Panathinaikos start. Kirilenko got CSKA's first points at the foul line, then Weems joined in with a baseline jumper. When Teodosic danced through the lane for a layup, CSKA had its first lead, 5-6. Kirilenko got loose for an inside dunk and Weems drilled free throws, as well. Sasha Kaun's steal resulted in Andrey Vorontsevich scoring on a hook shot before Pappas ended CSKA's 0-12 run with a foul shots that Kirilenko matched with a huge put-back slam. Vlantimir Giankovitz got his first points from the arc to make it 10-15, but De Colo and Teodosic were perfect at the line and the former fed Hines for a layup and an 11-20 CSKA lead. It took 3 of 4 free throws from Loukas Mavrokefalidis to restart the Panathinaikos offense and cut the difference to 14-20 after 10 minutes.

SECOND QUARTER: Pappas rallies Greens to tie

Mavrokefalidis opened the second quarter with a gutsy drive and then Pappas threaded a needle with a pass that DeMarcus Nelson for a fastbreak dunk. Panathinaikos then found Fotsis alone in the corner for a three-point swish worth a new lead, 21-20. The run ended with De Colo's open three-pointer, CSKA's first. After a big block by Kaun, Teodosic fed Vorontsevich for an open dunk and more great ball movement produced a wide-open De Colo triple at 21-28. His next try from the arc bounced in to make it 21-31, but Diamantidis responded in kind with his second three. De Colo went the other way and hit a layup that Gist matched with his first points until Fotsis kept the three-pointers falling with his second. Soon, Pappas lined up his own to cut the difference to 32-34. Panathinaikos came up with a late steal just in time to send Pappas alone for a dunk that beat the buzzer and tied the score, 34-34, at the half.

THIRD QUARTER: Greens stay a step ahead

Teodosic blasted his first triple to reboot CSKA after the half. Gist finished an inventive layup and then he and Pappas buried back-to-back threes as Panathinaikos soared ahead. Pappas was left alone on the arc and he kept it going for a 45-37 lead that prompted a CSKA timeout. Vorontsevich put back a miss and De Colo knocked down a transition jumper to calm the visitors. After Pappas finished a fastbreak, De Colo downed a layup and Kirilenko 3 of 4 free throws to make it 47-46. Giankovitz stepped up then with a three-pointer to stop CSKA's momentum and Diamantidis hit both his free throws to make it 52-46. Victor Khryapa entered to immediately feed Kaun for a dunk and hit is own free throw at 52-49. Nelson answered with a one-hander from the lane that Hines bettered with 4 perfect free throws, but Gist muscled to the rim for the third quarter's last basket and a 56-53 Panathinaikos edge.

FOURTH QUARTER: Weems answers surge, but Greens hold on

A Hines reverse and a Diamantidis two-pointer started the fourth quarter. A steal by Pappas led to Giankovitz lifting the roof with a transition three-pointer. When Diamantidis drilled free throws, the Greens had their top lead so far, 63-55. Weems drove to get 2 points back for CSKA, but Gist found Pappas on the arc as the Panathinaikos lead climbed to 66-57. Kirilenko signaled that CSKA wasn't finished by exploding for a dunk, but it was worth only the same 2 points as Gist's free throws. The Greens slept as Weems dunked in transition, nonetheless Fotsis responded from deep for the first double-digit Panathinaikos lead, 71-61, with under 5 minutes left. Weems kept rolling with a clean three-pointer and Vorontsevich hit free throws for CSKA, but Mavrokefalidis rocked his own triple at 74-65. Teodosic made 2 free throws before Weems buried another triple at 74-70 with 2 minutes left. Fotsis, just after missing from the corner, made sure with his next shot from the arc, but Weems matched him. Again, the Panathinaikos transition defense was caught sleeping as Weems raced for a layup, making it 77-75 with 1:03 to play. After a timeout, Panathinaikos desperately moved the ball to Pappas who shot over the outstretched Weems for yet another three-pointer and an 80-75 lead with 44 seconds left. Weems broke down the Panathinaikos defense for a layup with 31.6 seconds left to make it 80-77. CSKA fouled Diamantidis, who made 2 of 2 with foul shots, but Weems needed only seconds to drill from the arc again, his third of the final quarter, making it 82-80. CSKA put Pappas on the line, and he made both, too. Unbelievably, Teodosic fell out of bounds on one three-point miss, but CSKA got the offensive rebound to him and he hit a second try with 12.3 seconds left, making it a one-point game, 84-83. Immediately after a timeout, CSKA sent Diamantidis back to the line, where he missed the first, but made the second. With 10.8 seconds left, De Colo drove full-court and missed a layup, but Hines put it back for an 85-85 tie. Pappas made 1 of 2 free throws with 3.5 seconds left, keeping Panathinaikos ahead. CSKA had an inbounds to win it, but Teodosic's pass eluded Weems and Panathinaikos had its first win of the series.

Πήρε αυτό που του άξιζε...

Ο Παναθηναϊκός με εξαίρεση το β' δεκάλεπτο (όταν και δέχτηκε 24 πόντους), έπαιξε εξαιρετική άμυνα κόντρα στην ΤΣΣΚΑ Μόσχας και επικράτησε με 65-59 στο τρίτο παιχνίδι της σειράς.

Έτσι, μείωσε σε 2-1 το σκορ και την Τετάρτη (23/4, 19:30) θα προσπαθήσει να ισοφαρίσει, στέλνοντας τη σειρά σε 5ο παιχνίδι πίσω στη Μόσχα.

Με όπλο την άμυνα τους, οι "πράσινοι" αντέδρασαν στο τέλος όταν ο Κρστιτς έγραψε το 58-59, απαντώντας με ένα σερί 7-0 το οποίο τους χάρισε τη νίκη.

Η επιθετική συγκομιδή του α' ημιχρόνου ήταν καλή για τον Παναθηναϊκό που πέτυχε 41 πόντους, ενώ στο β' ημίχρονο περιορίστηκε στους 24 έχοντας και πάλι κάποια προβλήματα στο δημιουργικό κομμάτι.

Πρώτος σκόρερ ήταν ο Στεφάν Λάσμε με 13 πόντους, όμως ο Ζακ Ράιτ ήταν εξαιρετικός στο παιχνίδι έχοντας 10 πόντους, 8 ριμπάουντ, 1 κλέψιμο, 1 ασίστ και 1 τάπα. Για τρίτο συνεχόμενο ματς ο Σόνι Ουίμς ξεχώρισε από την ΤΣΣΚΑ, όμως στο τέλος έχασε ένα καθοριστικό τρίποντο κι έκανε ένα λάθος.

Ο αγώνας

Από το πρώτο κιόλας λεπτό του αγώνα, η ατμόσφαιρα στο γήπεδο ήταν εξαιρετική, με τον κόσμο να γίνεται ο 6ος παίκτης της ομάδας του Φραγκίσκου Αλβέρτη. Με 2/3 τρίποντα, οι "πράσινοι" ξεκίνησαν δυναμικά και πιο αποφασιστικά. Είναι χαρακτηριστικό ότι μετά το 11-3, προηγήθηκαν με 16-5 στο 6' χάρη σε νέο εύστοχο τρίποντο, αυτή τη φορά από τον Αντώνη Φώτση.

Με μία συνεργασία από τα παλιά ανάμεσα στον Διαμαντίδη και τον Μπατίστ, το σκορ έγινε 18-7 στο 7.30'' κι ενώ ο κόσμος του Παναθηναϊκού συνέχιζε να δίνει ρυθμό και ενέργεια στην ομάδα του. Παίζοντας καλή άμυνα, κρατώντας το 0 στα λάθη και βάζοντας κάποια σουτ ψυχολογίας, οι "πράσινοι" βρέθηκαν στο τέλος του α' δεκαλέπτου να προηγούνται με 20-11, έχοντας 3/5 τρίποντα, έναντι μηδενός (0/3) της ΤΣΣΚΑ.

Αντιστάθηκε στη ρωσική αντίδραση

Με ένα γκολ φάουλ από τον Ράιτ ξεκίνησε το β' δεκάλεπτο για τον Παναθηναϊκό που ήταν εμφανές πως ήθελε να τρέξει, πάντα με αφετηρία την καλή του άμυνα. Το 25-13 έγινε γρήγορα 25-18 με τους Ρώσους να προσπαθούν να βάλουν την μπάλα στο καλάθι και να τρέχουν ένα 5-0 με τους Φριντζόν και Βοροντσέβιτς. Στην πεντάδα πια του Παναθηναϊκού μάχες κόντρα στα ψηλά κορμιά της ΤΣΣΚΑ έδινε ο Λουκάς Μαυροκεφαλίδης που είχε αντικαταστήσει τον Μπατίστ, ενώ στο 14' πέρασε ξανά στο παρκέ ο Λάσμε.

Το νέο 5-0 των Ρώσων που έκανε το σκορ 30-25 υποχρέωσε τον Αλβέρτη να πάρει τάιμ άουτ, όμως ο Φριντζόν είχε βρει ρυθμό για τα καλά κι έγραψε το 31-27 στο 16' φτάνοντας τους 10 πόντους. Η ΤΣΣΚΑ πλησίασε και στο καλάθι (33-31, 35-33, 37-35), ασκώντας πίεση στον Παναθηναϊκό ο οποίος έβρισκε πλέον δύσκολο το δρόμο προς το καλάθι, έχοντας χάσει την φρεσκάδα των πρώτων λεπτών. Την ίδια στιγμή βέβαια, οι ψηλοί των αντιπάλων έκαναν πάρτι το καλύτερο δυνατό τελείωμα έγινε με το κλέψιμο του Ράιτ ο οποίος έγραψε το 41-35 στο τέλος του ημιχρόνου.

Με όπλο την ενέργεια, κράτησε το προβάδισμα

Ο Παναθηναϊκός ξεκίνησε με την ίδια ενέργεια το β' ημίχρονο, αλλά με πολύ μικρότερη αποτελεσματικότητα. Έχασε πολλά σουτ, έδειξε νευρικότητα και τελικά η ΤΣΣΚΑ το εκμεταλλεύτηκε μειώνοντας σε 43-40 στο 24.30'', φέρνοντας και πάλι την πίεση στην πλευρά των "πράσινων". Ποιος ανέλαβε και πάλι να βγάλει τα κάστανα από την φωτιά για τους Ρώσους; Ο Σόνι Ουίμς ο οποίος με πέντε δικούς του πόντους μείωσε σε 43-42.

Το τρίποντο του Ούκιτς από τα 8 μέτρα στο τέλος επίθεσης, ήταν το έναυσμα τόσο για τον κόσμο όσο και για τον Παναθηναϊκό ο οποίος βρέθηκε στο +7 (49-42). Πάντως, οι "πράσινοι" είχαν ξανά πρόβλημα στη δημιουργία και με τον Διαμαντίδη να μην έχει ανάσες (απόδειξη το ότι έχασε δύο διαδοχικές βολές), η ΤΣΣΚΑ μείωσε σε 51-47 με τον Καούν. Ο Ράιτ έκανε ό,τι μπορούσε σε άμυνα κι επίθεση όμως δεν ήταν αρκετό για να ξεφύγουν οι "πράσινοι".

Με όπλο την άμυνα του

Ο κόσμος ανέλαβε και πάλι δράση στο δ' δεκάλεπτο, με στόχο να αποσυντονίσει τους Ρώσους με συνεχή σφυρίγματα αποδοκιμασίας. Ωστόσο, με τους Βορόντσεβιτς και Ουίμς πλησίασαν για πρώτη φορά σε απόσταση αναπνοής (54-53), βάζοντας δύσκολα στους "πράσινους" που έπρεπε για μία ακόμα φορά να δείξουν ψυχή και χαρακτήρα.

Ο άφαντος μέχρι εκείνη τη στιγμή Γκιστ με καλάθι και φάουλ (αστόχησε στη βολή), έδωσε μία βαθιά ανάσα στον Παναθηναϊκό, όμως ένα επιθετικό φάουλ που έκανε κι ένα ακόμα του Λάσμε σε τρίποντο, έδωσαν πνοή στην ΤΣΣΚΑ. Στα 3.22'' για το τέλος του αγώνα ο Κρστιτς έδωσε το προβάδισμα στους Ρώσους για πρώτη φορά στο παιχνίδι, γράφοντας το 58-59. Με 1/2 βολές από τον Φώτση έγινε το 61-59, με την μπάλα να μην του κάνει το χατίρι στο 1.40'', καταλήγοντας έξω σε σουτ τριών πόντων. Στα 38'' για το τέλος ο Λάσμε έκανε το 63-59 και ο κόσμος αποθέωσε την προσπάθεια του Παναθηναϊκού που κατάφερε να μειώσει σε 2-1 τη σειρά.

Panathinaikos downs CSKA as Diamantidis breaks Euroleague's assist record 

Panathinaikos Athens stayed alive in the 2013-14 Turkish Airlines Euroleague by edging CSKA Moscow 65-59 in Game 3 of their best-of-five series in the Greek capital on Monday. CSKA still leads the series 2-1 but Panathinaikos hosts Game 4 on Wednesday. Panathinaikos legend Dimitris Diamantidis reached another milestone by breaking the Euroleague's career assists record with 978. The previous record belonged to Theo Papaloukas, who dished 977 assists throughout his career. Stephane Lasme led Panathinaikos with 13 points. Zack Wright added 10 while Diamantidis had 9 and 5 assists for Panathinaikos. Sonny Weems paced CSKA with 14 points. Vitaly Fridzon added 10 for the guests, who were outrebounded by 35-26. Panathinaikos had a strong start as a three-pointer by Diamantidis gave the hosts an 11-3 lead. Panathinaikos boosted the margin to 20-11 after 10 minutes and then again to 25-13 early in the second quarter. Vitaly Fridzon and Jeremy Pargo fueled CSKA's comeback, bringing the guests within 35-33. Stephane Lasme and Zack Wright restored a 41-35 Panathinaikos lead at halftime. Three-pointers by Roko Ukic and Antonis Fotsis gave the hosts a 49-42 margin late in the third quarter but Weems and Nenad Krstic allowed CSKA to lead 58-59 with 3 minutes left to play. Panathinaikos stepped up on defense, holding CSKA scoreless in crunch time while Lasme and Diamantidis allowed Panathinaikos to record a good-as-gold win. 

First quarter: Maciulis, Diamantidis put hosts ahead 

Panathinaikos found an early go-to guy in Maciulis, who drew 2 fouls, hit 3 of 4 free throws and struck from downtown to give the Greens an early 6-1 lead. Sonny Weems stepped up with a jumper but a put-back layup by Antonis Fotsis and a three-pointer by Dimitris Diamantidis boosted Panathinaikos's lead to 11-3. Kyle Hines tried to change things with a close basket that Diamantidis answered in kind. So when Fotsis fired in a three-pointer from the right wing, the hosts had a double-digit margin, 16-5. Vladimir Micov hit foul shots for CSKA that Mike Batiste erased with a left-handed slam, good for an 18-7 Panathinaikos margin. Andrey Vorontsevich made free throws, as Panathinaikos tried a new frontline with James Gist and Loukas Mavrokefalidis together on court. Ramel Curry hit a one-handed jumper in the lane but Aaron Jackson fed Sasha Kaun for a layup that kept CSKA within 20-11 after 10 minutes. 

Second quarter: Fridzon keeps CSKA close 

Wright pumped up the crowd with an off-balance basket - and the free throw that came with it - early in the second quarter. Fridzon responded with free throws and bettered Mike Bramos's slam with a corner three-pointer, getting CSKA within 25-16. Vorontsevich scored around the basket but Mavrokefalidis improved on that with a dunk-and-free throw combination. Nenad Krstic dunked, Diamantidis made free throws and Fridzon downed a triple off the glass for as CSKA got back to within 30-23. Jeremy Pargo downed an electric driving layup that caused Panathinaikos to call a timeout at 30-25. CSKA kept running its offense through Fridzon, who made free throws before Pargo matched Lasme's layup with a jumper to bring CSKA as close as 33-29. Kyle Hines dropped a baseline shot and Micov a turnaround as CSKA kept the pressure up at 35-33. But Lasme and Fotsis made free throws before a coast-to-coast layup by Wright got Panathinaikos to a more-comfortable 41-35 at halftime. 

Third quarter: Panathinaikos holds on to lead 

Lasme scored around the basket right after the break, as CSKA struggled to find open shots against the Greens' aggressive defense. The guests went scoreless for more than 3 minutes but Panathinaikos could not find the way to the basket, either. Weems rescued CSKA with a bomb from downtown and Khryapa fed Krstic for a backdoor slam that made the Greens call timeout at 43-40. Weems kept pacing CSKA with a mid-range jumper to cap a 0-7 run. Ukic revived the crowd with an eight-meter triple that Fotsis followed with his own shot from downtown to give Panathinaikos plenty of fresh air at 49-42. Micov joined the three-point shootout, however, as CSKA stayed all over the passing lines, forcing Panathinaikos to use long possessions and take tough shots. Wright stepped up with a fastbreak layup off a midcourt steal and registered a big block on Jackson as Panathinaikos clung to a 51-47 advantage after 30 minutes. 

Fourth quarter: Diamantidis breaks assists record! 

Mavrokefalidis took over with a big basket in the low post early in the fourth quarter. Weems nailed a mid-range jumper and even when Panathinaikos kept powering the offensive glass, the hosts kept struggling to find open shots. Wright split free throws before back-to-back jumpers by Vorontsevich and Weems made it a one-point game, 54-53. Wright kept pacing Panathinaikos with a put-back basket, Vorontsevich split free throws on Maciulis's fifth foul and a wild put-back dunk by James Gist restored a 58-54 Panathinaikos lead. Weems buried 3 of 3 free throws and Krstic a running hook to complete CSKA's comeback with a 58-59 lead and 3 minutes left. Lasme hit foul shots and Fotsis split his for a two-point Panathinaikos lead, 61-59. Krstic picked up a turnover and Diamantidis fed Lasme for a layup which sealed the outcome, 63-59. It was Diamantidis's 978th assist to become the Euroleague's all-time leader. Diamantidis added free throws to round out a perfect night for him and Panathinaikos.
